Question Black Music - Love Songs

I listen to all sorts of music. Has anyone notice that the recent "love" songs on predominantly black or rhythm & blues stations. Love songs are about screwing. But the predominantly white or easy listening stations. Love songs are not about screwing.

Has anyone else notice this?

Never thought about it. But I've always noticed that some R&B songs are a tad bit graphic...

I haven't really noticed it, but I'll think about it when the time comes....

You can't say all of Black Love songs are about screwing. What about Anita Baker? I would say mostly Black Male song writters talk about screwing.

Soror, I said "recent" black love songs. I do agree with you, most of the recent love songs sung by men are about screwing.

It is a sad case when these male singers think love is only about screwing. Maybe one day, the new male singers will write true loves songs, like Luther Vandross, Temptations, O Jays, Freddie Jackson, Peabo Bryson, Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrast, and others did. There is some hope, Ruben Studdard (fingers cross) sings real love songs.

My question is...

why are "bump and grind" songs being categorized as "love songs?"

Which leads me to the next question- What is your definition of love?

That's my point, soror. Those "bump and grind" songs are categorized as love songs, or maybe slow jams. I doubt I will ever hear a DJ says "This is the new bump and grind song from ..." He or she would call it a love song or a slow jam.
The artist who sung the song would not called it a "bump and grind" song either, they will called it a love song or slow jam

My defintion of love
Love is a confusing emotion. It is rational but irrational at the same time.

It is easier for me to tell you what love is not.
Love is not "bumping and grinding".
Love is not a "merger".
Love is not "what can I get out of this relationship."

Hi Strive,
I don't listen to the white love songs so I'm not sure of their subject matter. However, I have noticed that with black love songs, it's either about having sex or cheating on your man/woman (but of course, it's dressed up to sound like it's just completely unavoidable).

Can I get a love song that's only about love?

pardon me...

My dear you can have MANY love songs...about love. You just have to accept there is a difference and stop referring to non-love songs as "love songs."
