When you make your little's jersey, the lettering will have a certain pattern. Family Fabric is when that same pattern is used on everyone's jersies in your family. If you pick something that will be used for years and years in your family, pick some traditional but also something that is nice. My family had what is known as "family plaid". Blah. Everyone else in my chapter was getting these jersies with bright colors and patterns; my family was stuck with this drab blue and green plaid. No one in my family wanted to keep up with the tradition since the pattern was so ugly so no one from my pledge class and thereafter used family plaid. Oh well. So, make sure the pattern you pick will be something that will still be styling years from now.

Wow. I completely learned something new. At Gamma Delta, we didn't have family fabrics. We just had the family (Strawberries were used) trees on the wall for everyone to see.
I think it's a neat idea... But, I would hate to have gotten stuck with some pattern I would never have worn out of the house. lol

My big gave me a bag with this cute fabric that's varying shades of blue with stars on it and I really liked it. Our original family fabric was white with ladybugs on it, but the fabric was discontinued and the girl who started it graduated. So, when my big left, I decided that that cute star fabric was going to be our new fabric and got matching letters made for my big, me, and my little and put some of the fabric in my little's initiation basket. This past fall, she got a little and had letters made with that same fabric. Now, it's our family fabric (with white background on long-sleeved navy shirts) and we even have a new family symbol - the star (not only because of the fabric, but because it's five-pointed like the crown!). I was so excited to start a new tradition and my little promised me to keep it going after I gradute this May!

My family has letters...my littles get pink shirts with navy blue letters that have pink ribbons on them. Believe me, everyone knows who my family is, because no one else in the chapter has gotten the letters. Jennifer hooks us up! She makes the best letters I have found. She is also the one who makes the ZTA fabric I posted about on here awhile ago. Her website is www.greekshop1.com and you can order online now!
ZLAM,
Meredith
PS - I would love to hear about other "family patterns."
