Greeks around the world

I am from a greek family not based in Greece. I would like to why when families move from country to country, why they bring all there extended family to the country and why they all base wiyh-in a 1 km radius of eachother. I live in Australia and 3 aunties and 2 cousins all own there own homes around the corner from eachother.

I don't see the point of all grouping together. It reminds me off the primative nomads.

Although this is a website primarily for North American Greek Lettered Fraternities and Sororities (not the culture and people of Greece) I still think the topic is interesting and not unique to Greek nationals.

My mother's family, which is mostly from Virginia, moved to DC when my mother was very young. My great uncle, mother, grandmother, and another great uncle and aunt, all live within two miles of each other to this day. In fact, back in the day, my grandmother and her brother used to live two doors away from each other on the same block.

I think the point is for mutual assistance and closeness in a new place....then it becomes a comfortable tradition. If one gets sick, nobody wants to be too far away to help out.
