Red face "Dads" No Longer Needed in the Reproduction Process?

Just ahead of Mother's Day, scientists have found a way to cut dads out of the picture, at least among rodents: They have produced mice with two genetic moms — and no father. It is the first time the feat has been accomplished in mammals

WTH??

Isn't "making the baby" the fun part? Why cut out the fun part?

For those who don't participate in the "fun part" the TRADITIONAL way.

This reminds me

There is a new movie coming out called "Godsend". It is about a family who clones their dead son. It looks scary.
We debated this in a class I took in undergrad called Life, Death, and the Law. Many people theorize that cloned people will not have souls...a scary thought...I think the movie is created aroung this premise.

I don't think cloned people will have the same soul as the "original person". Yes, they may look, sound, smell, and talk like the original person, but I don't believe it will be the same soul as the original.

the argument is that they won't have a soul at all, period. That "god" is the only one who can give a soul and eventhough man may be able to "create" this cloned person, they will not have the soul that only "god" can give.

I concur and that's what scares me. If your spark was given to you by man, why would a clone have any reason to honor God.

Man, I wish we could go back in time and live in loinclothes and eat from the land cuz this pushing of boundaries by scientists is beginning to scare the hell outta me.

Can someone please tell me WHY????

Why do people feel the need to play God?

Instead of trying to play God, I would think that we should aspire to more like God by living by His word, i.e. being kind & loving one another, etc.

Science is fine and dandy, but cloning is going too far

People need to stop playing with God's work. Sometimes I think with all the crazy things going on in today's world he is trying to send us a message but we are just not listening.

Sorry for the board crash, but.....

I don't really have a decided stance on this yet, but I've always wondered...In this situation and ones of the like, there are always people that bring up 'Why are people playing God?'. In my experiences, many of these people are also fairly to very religious in nature.... So I ask, if God does, makes, and controls all, and we're not supposed to be able to do things like this, why did He give us the knowledge?? Not trying to stir the pot, it's just an honest thought that has crossed my mind many a time.

There's nothing new under the sun. I believe that God knows all things; and they're revealed to us incrementally (we can't see what will happen on Wednesday until Wednesday arrives; yet God already knows...)

I think there's a limit to what "man" will be able to do with this, and that limit or border, is ordained by and known to God. Within these borders may be some medical scientific good, and/or some mischief on the part of man. Why the mischief, you might ask? Because, as free-will beings, we retain the choice to do right or wrong. Yeah, there's some consternation as these things develop, particularly when you recognize man's historic propensity to make the dummy move. But in the end, it's still all good.

..if they want to impress me, how 'bout we start eliminating homelessness. yeah, how 'bout that?

Yes, how about we tackle problems in society like homelessness, drug abuse, child abuse etc. Why do we always want to find a way to clone people or make babies without sexual activity?

Man Making Contest

One day a group of scientists got together and decided that man had come a long way and no longer needed God. They picked one scientist to go and tell God that they were done with Him.

The scientist walked up to God and said, "God, we've decided that we no longer need you. We're to the point that we can clone people and do many miraculous things, so why don't you just go on and get lost."

God listened patiently and kindly and after the scientist was done talking, God said, "Very well! How about this? Let's have a Man Making Contest."

To which the scientist replied, "OK, great!"

But God added, "Now we're going to do this just like I did back in the old days with Adam."

The scientist said, "Sure, no problem" and bent down and grabbed himself a handful of dirt.

God just looked at him and said, "No, no, no. You go get your own dirt!"
