Smile Christmas Just Isn't Christmas Without...

Since we are in the midst of the Christmas holiday season, I wanted everyone to share their favorite thing(s) they like most about this time of the year. Feel free to also share any memories. I'll get us started...

Celebrating the birth of Jesus!

Spending time with family and friends

My mom's sweet potato pies

That coffee commericial starring "Peter". I haven't seen it this year.

I love those darn Gap Christmas commercials.

I liked the Norelco commercial with Santa "skiing" on that razor-thing!

The smell of pine from the Christmas Tree

Food, folks and fun...

But, Christmas just has not been Christmas like it used to be without my Father. He passed away in 1983!

Anyway, I enjoy watching my nieces and now nephew (this will be his FIRST Christmas) open their gifts. It reminds me of those mornings when my sister and I would wake up 4 AM to see if "Santa" had come. The thing that always puzzled me was how did he get there when our "chimney" was SOOOOOO SMALL!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!

Decorating the house.

Nat King Cole's Christmas CD.

Helping my little sister find the perfect dress for the annual dinner.

Reading "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" by the fireplace on Christmas Eve. (My mom used to read it to me, now my mother, sister, and I take turns reading verses.)

My dad trying to untangle the Christmas lights.

My mom in her holiday apron with flour on her cheek.

This is what I like most about Christmas:

* the joy of celbrating Jesus birthday

* being able to see my family all together

* my grandmama's homemade Christmas Candy

* the Coca-Cola Christmas commercials with the cute little polar bears

* an overcrowded house with crazy sleeping arrangements

* the annual argument between my grandmother and aunts over what method to use to cook the turkey and they always end up cooking it the same way they did last year
(my family a trip y'all!)

Decorating the tree as a family.......

The smell of poinsettias all over the house.....

Food, Food, Food.......

Every third song being a christmas song on the local radio station......

Watching "It's a Wonderful Life" everyday because everyday another station airs it.......

Running to the tree on Christmas morning in flannel gown and fuzzy slipers to see if Santa had come (which I still do).......

Going to church to watch the kids in the christmas play (nobody could ever remember lines, and the baby Jesus was always a plastic doll that would get dropped).......

Laughter, Friends, Relatives, Love.....

X-mas to mean wouldn't be the same without

1. My family buying our tree like four days before Xmas (always when the last child comes home from college).

2. "It's a Wonderful Life" one of my favorite movies!

3. Playing cards and feeling the "spirits" (lol) of the holidays.

4. Waiting till Christmas Eve to wrap all our presents!

5. On Christmas day my grandmother has to put her best gown, hair, and makeup on in case we take pictures!

I like this one!

* The smell of holiday ham, fried turkey, sweet potato pies, that homemade triple layered butter cake with the old fashioned homemade stove top cooked chocolate icing

* My family and I watching that old beaten up Motown Christmas tape we recorded many years ago

*Watching my daughter's face light up when she touches every ornament like it was a precious jewel

*sitting down telling the stories about how our hands would get popped because we stole some candy canes off the tree to eat at school

*My family dancing to the Black christmas music (The younger one's trying to teach the older ones )

*The look of gratefulness my granny has when she looks at all of us and thanks God for letting her see us all.

*The spiked egg nog

*The reminder of just how glorious our God is

*Cuddling up with my Daughter reading "The Cajun Night Before Christmas"

*The excuses we all make that we can over eat because of the diet we're gonna stick to for the New Year! lol

There is nothing like Christmas Eve Service at church.

I was raised Cathlic, so Midnight Mass was always a huge deal, becasue we had to wait until we were old enough to go with the adults.

Now, I attend a non dem church, and Christmas Eve Service just feels "SOFT" to me. Everybody is happy and wanting to feel the LORD move.

WWWHHHOOOO!!!! Now that's Christmas.

I also love decorating the tree with my "little one", and watching her open her gifts.

AKA2D, this will be our first Christmas without my father, so we'll have to muddle through.

Does anyone feel that the true spirit of Christmas is present these days? To me it doesn't feel as special anymore, what do you think?

I think it depends on you! If you feel people are losing sight of the real "Reason for the Season" Then take it upon yourself to remind those close to you, or even those not so close to you. I always do.

I too enjoy all the good food and gifts but we always keep Christ in mind. Our work is never done no matter what. Whether it's involvement in a sorority or just being just plain ol' human. The folks in my surrounding area adopt families and try to make Christmas great for someone else. God found us worthy to give us his son. We could at least give a meal and some love to someone else less fortunate. Right?

My family

Being at my Granny's -- 29th year, lol -- at Christmas Eve; I remember missing all the "fun" as a kid because I had to go to bed so Santa could come, lol. Now that I am grown, I see all they do is play bid whist.

a little bit of snow

My mama's cooking
