Epsilon Lambda Chapter of AEPhi

Hi all,
A few girls and I are looking to start another sorority here on my campus (UT-El Paso), and I recently found out that AEPhi HAD a chapter at my campus....the Epsilon Lambda Chapter.

Well, it seems as though this chapter has been inactive or what not, or a really long time. And I was just wondering if y'all knew whether we would have to go through the NPC to reactivate this chapter.

Any information would help...thanks!

Yes, you would still have to go through NPC channels. You and your friends can form an interest group, then approach your college Panhellenic. If they allow expansion to proceed, you and they can then approach NPC and indicate that the campus is open for expansion and that there is a local group with a preference for affiliating with AEPhi. (Unfortunately, if the college Panhel decides not to allow expansion to proceed, you won't be able to affiliate with AEPhi... but you can always petition again later on.)

That chapter has been closed for at least ten years; my new member manual, printed circa 1993, indicates that the chapter is not active. It would be great if that chapter were reactivated.

Good luck!

It's awesome to hear you're interested in restarting a chapter AEPhi. AEPhi Alum's advice is right. And definitely speak to your campus's Panhellenic Council and Greek Advisor to find out more about your campus's outlook on expansion.

I wish you the best of luck!

Thanks for y'alls advice. I really do wanna reactivate this chapter of AEPhi, but my greek life advisor more or less said it was a bad idea.

We already have a local sorority here that has been waiting for 2 years to affiliate with NPC and bring a new NPC sorority on campus, but because our other 2 NPC sororites are far below quota, NPC has declined to allow expansion on our sorority.

I think i'm going to have to go back and see what we can do to bring AEPhi back to our campus because it seems like AEPhi would be an asset to our greek community here on campus.

Again, thanks for all of your input. If you think of anythign else that might help, by all means let me know!! Thanks

i don't know the situation with the local sorority is but have you ever thought of maybe combining your efforts with them to pursue national affiliation.

and how far under total are the nationals on your campus and how far behind is the local? for some reason i thought i heard your school had a very strong recruitment this year.

if your interest group really doesn't see itself in any of the other chapters on campus, with your schools approval you could try to start another local and pursue affiliation with AEPhi or a another national in a few years after you have built up a stronger base.

Well according to head of greek life, quota for the 2 NPC sororities is 50...and he said they are WAY under. I think at the end of rush, they said that each sorority had around 30 (no higher than 35). And that was the reason that the other local sorority was having a lot of trouble affiliating, because of the lack of interest here.

I thought we had a good turn out too...until I came here to greekchat and saw that a lot of girls had over 100, 200, 300 girls for rush...and we had around 50.

What i'll need to do is really talk to the other girls that are interested and give them all the options and have then decide what to do.

I got an email from the Director of Chapter Services saying that they she sent my request to someone dealing with extensions, but its been a while and nothings happened. So i'm not sure, I was kinda hoping they would email me before I talked to the other girls, but I dont think that will be possible, so I don't think we are going to be reactivating that chapter.
