Chapter House Furniture

The chapter I'm advising is redecorating their Chapter Suite, does any one have any suggestions where they could purchase nice looking book cases, end tables and coffee tables inexpensively. Right now all of their furniture is hodge podge and they want to purchase furniture that will help them tie the room together and help it look classier.

how much $$ do you have to spend, and how many of each thing do you need?

If you have a Wickes out there (or you can come here ) sometimes they have floor models on sale. It's a LOT cheaper than the ordinary stuff and usually the only imperfection is a little sticker where it says floor model (which of course you can take off). This is where I got my nightstand and dresser and they're beautiful.

Also if any of the chapter members' parents can do this, they might be able to order furniture through an office supply store more cheaply than getting it at a furniture store.

Do they have a website? Maybe some of the girls could make a side trip when we come for D-Days!

Approx: 1-2 book cases, 2-4 end tables and 1-2 coffee tables. They don't have too much money $500-$800 left. They already ordered slip covers from Sure Fit for 2 couches and 4 chairs and the school is supposed to donate paint and painting supplies which is helping to keep the cost down.

Oh if any one has had experience with slipcovers and would like to offer advice I'm all ears, this will be my first experience with them, like can you clean them

For cheap but nice-looking tables and shelves, you can't beat Ikea. That's where I got mine, and I love them. They make everything in one of a few veneers so it's easy to get pieces that match.

Agreed, but it does have to be assembled so only do this option if you have parents to help.

How good are Ikea veneers? The ones at Target tend to chip after a while and sororities, at least mine, are high usage and rough usage locations. What about looking for antiques? (If new is out of the options) They might have to put some work in. But then you'll have real wood which won't chip. There is nothing tackier than chipped veneer on tables.

the closeout place is in Monroeville which is where they'd be getting off the Turnpike for DD. there's a Roomful Express out here too.

I checked out their website and they have some nice stuff with reasonable prices, but I can't get to the December Sale section because I don't have a zip code in their delivery area.

Just a little lesson learned - Ikea is great for apartments with 1-2 people, not so good as a high traffic item.

We paid summer dues that are used to make suite renovations. I would look for something like Sheila suggested. This is one area where you don't want to skip for cheapness, you want something durable and timeless. We bought new couches from a furniture store in 1998 on a payment plan which we paid off in a year. They are still there in perfect condition and not out of style, but the stuff we bought at Ikea and Pier 1 didn't even make it 3 years.

A word to the wise: at Ikea, you get what you pay for.

If you want something to last more than a year, you need to spend a little more money to get something durable.

Do you have Weekends Only in Ohio? It's a big furniture outlet chain that's open only on weekends. They have a lot of stuff in their stores here, but it's just like every outlet, if you don't see something you like one week, come back again, the selection is constantly rotating. We have them in the St. Louis area, you might check to see if they have a website, but the prices can be fantastic!

I know this may be a lil late but i just found this thread. You can also try to check wholesale stores like BJ's or costco or price club or something like that if you have them. sometimes they have good stuff for not that expensive and pretty good quality.

hope this helps,
kate
