Lightbulb MIRRORS

Prior to 1913, every AKA would end the night by going to the mirror and asking:

"Mirror mirror on the wall,
Who is the FIRST and BEST of them all?"

And the mirror would respond:
"Dear AKA its true,
The FIRST and the BEST is you!"

However on January 13, 1913 when the AKA went to her mirror and asked,
"Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Who is the first and best of them all?"

The mirror responded:
"Dear AKA }u are the first its true,
But today 22 were born who are better than you!"

The AKA tried to stop the mirror, but it continued:
"They were born to fulfill the Black Woman's dream,
And they come wearing robes of crimson and cream!"

In a fit of rage, the AKA tried to break the mirror. The mirror, upset at the AKA said:
"Because of your act, you evil vile thing,
Upon you and your sorors a curse I will bring.

You will have to carry your mirror always, And ask the same question day after day, Until the mirror tells you that your organization is the best,
Only then will the curse be laid to rest."

The AKA begged the mirror to remove the curse, But unfortunately her pleadings just made matters worse. So til this day, the curse has not been laid to rest,
Even though the AKAs have tried their best.

Today, when asked the mirror will say:
"Dear AKA, you are the first, its true,
But there are now over 200,000 who are better
than you!"

And, that my dear friends is the reason why AKAs need their mirrors.

You must be a Delta. If you had pride
in your organization you would not disrespect
the First Black Sorority AKA of which your founders came and IMITATED, NEVER DUPLICATED.
Since i am not GHETTO i WILL NOT go to the
Delta message board and disrespect your sorors. Delta's wanted to be AKA's but
we wouldn't let them have their way.

To the Delta who posted that little message. That is the reason why DST was started because we would not allow people like you in our organization.AKA's do not dwell on petty things and do not participate in childish acts. I have friends who are Delta's so I like my other soror said will not disrespect your organization but I will say this..."Wake up!There are other way to show pride in your organization."

Ladies,
This is the reason why I did not respond to this post. People like this are not deserving of our attention.

Obviously the individual who put this on the message board was looking for an uproar. But we do not need to dignify this little "mirror" thing. We know we are the first and the finest. We are the epitomy of finer women. More than likely a Delta wrote the little poem, but that's because of their own insecurity. Delta's should respect their roots, without Alpha Kappa Alpha there is no DST. Moreover, no need to hate on the AKA's. if the individual who originally wrote the little thing, not the one who sent it, since she's not a DST, had enough confidence in DST they would not need to write these types of things. Sounds to me like the DST who thought of this needs constant affirmation to continue to have pride. Too bad. I guess everyone can't be an Alpha Kappa Alpha woman. After all, we go for quality, not quantity

Greetings,
I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and I felt compelled to respond. Ladies, let us be mindful that on this forum there is no way to confirm or deny anyone's membership. This person has already stated that she is not a member of my sorority, so please let's not begin attacking one another's organizations. We all know that these little poems should be taken with a grain of salt. Who knows what her motive was for posting? But we should not let someone who is obviously not involved in this discussion, create confusion where there is none. Everyone thinks that their sorority is the best, otherwise they would have sought membership elsewhere. So, we know that we will not agree on that point. But gladly, we all do have our own identities and purposes. If not, then there would only be one sorority. Remember, variety is the spice of life.

Have a great day,
DSTBrat

DSTbrat we did not go onto the DST board and post any negative comments about your organization. We dealt with the FOOL Informer over here where it began like real women do. We agree that we don't know the true identity and that is good and bad. Thank you for your comment however and take care.

SkeeeWeee Sorors and good afternoon. You know i was just wondering why is it that somebody is always in AKA business. Everybody seems to know what we are doing (or think they do)or trying to find out. all the black greek's nationals have banned "pledging" and have new intake programs set up (although we know pledging still lives) but i never hear about how they handle their business or intake, why is AKA business always put out in the streets. Whatever happened to discretion? it ticks me off. anyway i'm open to your opinions.

Pink Bunny, I hear what you are saying and it really irritates me, too. I think more emphasis has to be placed on discretion.
Another problem I find contributing to AKA business being "out there" is when a soror is initiated and she realizes that AKA is not the sorority for her. She no longer has the love or respect for AKA that other soros have. Or sorors who think that it is ok to tell something she views as insignificant to the process.

On my college campus, I remember how people were also trying to get into AKA business. Ladies attended our rush just to see who would be there, guys followed us in their cars hoping we would lead them to the location of the initiation process, etc. It was really ridiculous.

AKAtude absolutely, that's funny you mention guys trying to find out where and what you guys were doing, THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO US. One of my best friends knew that i was on line from her boyfriend all the way in New Orleans before i even told her. Can you believe that mess. Anyway thanks for your reply.

its a shame what some people would do just to get attention. I AM NOT a greek, but i do have respect for both the ladies of DST, and the ladies of AKA. if it wasnt for the AKA's the Ladies of DST wouldnt have had a base to emerge from.(one way or another. just my point of view) However, i am kind of upset at some of the comments that were made against DST. i guess some of you wouldnt understand because its different from the outside looking in, but i cant count the number of times that X sorority made a comment about Z sorority in a step show. i thought that it was all out of friendly competition. even though Informer's version was totally different from youngrider's version, i can see it as something being used at a stepshow. but anyways, this is something that should be left for the stepshows, and not brought into another sorority's forum.
