As I have said before, I am not a greek so my opininon may not matter to you.

1). IMHO the NPHC groups' purposes may not be the exactly the same as when they were founded but they are still vital parts of the community. The leadership and service that they provide will push african americans and the minority community as a whole to bigger and better things. My 2 cents.

2). I don't know enough about these groups to comment.

Question The NPHC in the 21st century

I have a very thought provoking thread I have been thinking about for a long time:

As everyone knows, the NPHC as of 2000 has 1.5 million initiates in 9 different orgs. Seeing the eras and transistions the NPHC has gone through, I have some questions to throw out there:

1). (Please be honest) Do you feel that the NPHC orgs will continue to be a staple in the Black community, or do you feel that they have outlived their purpose, as opposed to when they were founded 75+ years ago?

2). Do you feel that NPHC will or should expand their membership to include other Black organizations (Currently there are approximately 10-15 known Black Greek organizations that are not NPHC)? Why or why not?

(I thought about adding a Question 3, but I'll reserve that for a Part II verion of this thread in the near future--IMHO it is a thread in itself plus I gave yall enough to chew on already).

What do you think?

As far as question 1, I will wait to answer that question for later date.

As far as question 2, the NPHC bylaws state that a bonefide, incorporated, founded under the auspices of persons of African descent that live in the United States and are university based, socially based and community serviced based may join the NPHC National if their organization has corporately functioned for 25 years or longer...

You can get that information from the Constitution and Bylaws at the http://www.nphc.org site.
