Biological Greek Siblings

Hi all!

I was just wondering how many of you have biological brothers or sisters that went Greek. My younger brother joined Delta Tau Delta this past year at Butler University. (Greatest group of guys on campus!) I'm a Delta Gamma at Butler, by the way. Do you feel like you influenced your sibling or were influenced to join a certain house because of them? How has being Greek affected your relationship? I know that for my brother and I, we see each other a lot more often and get to hang out/party together which is a ton of fun.

My older sister was an AXO.. She went inactive early. But she did convince me to give my sorority a chance. I am way more involved than she was. We honestly have never really talked about anything greek.. Except on bid day when she told me to accept the snap bid. We had totally different sororities at both of our schools. so we are having totally different experiences.

My little sister pledged AXO her freshman year, when i was a junior. After seeing how much fun she had, and meeting some of the Sigma Nu's her and her sister's always hung out with, i decided to go through rush myself.

My little brother is an SAE at Northern Colorado.
Unfortunately we're five grades apart in school so we didn't overlap in high school or college at all and have always run in completely different circles.
I like to think that my being greek and enjoying it tremendously influenced his decision to rush but honestly, he might have done it anyway.

My brother joined Sigma Chi last year at UBC - unfortunately he is 6 years younger than me so I was already an alum by the time he joined, however I'm very close with his fraternity so we hang out at parties and formals, which is kind of strange sometimes, but also a tonne of fun

I only have one full blooded sibling and he did not finish high school. I'm the only Greek in my immediate family. I'm kind of sad because I'm sure my brother would have loved to join a fraternity. He always comes to my sorority events and ends up hanging out with all the fraternity guys.

My younger brother is greek (he posts on here occasionally as zete_boy). He's in Zeta Psi....I'm in Iota Beta Chi.....both at Dalhousie University.

I think I influenced him into joining his fraternity. Before I joined IBX, I don't think I had heard much about my bro wanting to join a fraternity....but he did join Zeta Psi his first semester at Dal!

I'm happy....it made planning social events much easier!! I was the social chair.....and since I knew all the Zetes really well through my bro, most of my sisters got to be friends with them too! Plus I tried to have lots of events with them.....easier since my family only has one car (and my bro doesn't have a license...therefore I was driving him to his events.....and if I was already going too, it was just easier!)

I hope that when I have a daughter she will join a sorority....maybe even her mom's?! I can only dream!

First, my sister went to UH and I was already a DZ, but I couldn't get her to rush. Then she transferred to a school an hour and a half north of Houston (ahem...) that had a problem with their greek life the semester she transferred there...She also happened to be writing articles for her school paper at the time, so she got pretty good anti-greek propaganda through that experience considering what the "news" was that semester...Long story short, sister is not greek.

Fast forward to now. Brother went to my sister's school the first year, and has transferred to UH for his 2nd year. He has been invited out to rush events but is too "shy" and thinks it is "stupid" to go out with people you don't know to get to know them, or go anywhere alone...I told him to take his friends and he said "sure, and we'll talk to each other...". Nevermind the fact that the advisor for one of the fraternities is practically like a father to my husband, and the other fraternity that invited him out is my husband's fraternity. And this is a boy who has yet to step foot on campus...STILL he is already invited out! Can he not see the light!

So it looks like I will be the lonely greek in my family. It is me, my grandmother, husband, stepmother-in-law, stepsister-in-law and stepbrothers-in-law...but no siblings....*sigh*

My older bro went to school without a greek system.

Then I went to Capital & joined Phi Beta.

I have a step-sister who is 3 years younger than I am. We never lived together or anything (but get along just fine!) & she went to Kent State. She never even rushed. I don't think greek life is too big there, though?

My sister is 4 years youger than me. We were never in school together, either. We're not much alike at all, really. She went to the University of Akron. There isn't a Phi Beta chapter there. I didn't even know she was rushing, my mom emailed me one day and was all shocked and said "Did you know your sister is rushing!?" which I didn't. I don't know if my experience influenced her at all, or if she wanted to meet some people, or if she was planning it all along, or what? But, she ended up joining KKG. She got married & transferred the next year, though, to a school w/out Kappa, so she didn't get the full experience. I've really been pushing her to hook up with an alum association. (She looked into it when she was in GA, but it was like 2 hours away from her!) I *think* we're the only 2 greeks so far in the family.

My younger brothers pledged Sigma Chi and Lambda Chi at Mississippi State. However, back then Greek pledgeship lasted over a semester and you were initiated in January. The morons transferred to Texas schools after fall semester and never got to be initiated.

My younger sister will be attending the University of Florida this fall. She's not rushing this year but hopefully she will next year. I'm crossing my fingers that she goes ZTA!

It was fall '99-spring '00 (she would be a senior this year if she still went there). I can't recall her big's name right now, although I've met her & some other Kappa sisters from the chapter (mostly @ my sis' wedding). They all seemed pretty cool. I've actually had quite a few friends go to Akron, as it's not all that far from where I grew up. My sister's the only one I know who went greek there, though.
