REMINISCING (SP?)
HELLO EVERYONE!
I'VE POSTED ONCE OR TWICE BEFORE, BUT MAINLY I'VE BEEN AN OBSERVER. I'VE GOT A QUESTION FOR THOSE OF YOU IN SERIOUS, COMMITTED RELATIONSHIPS, AND I NEED TO KNOW IF IT'S JUST ME. LET ME START OFF BY SAYING THAT I LOVE MY HUSBAND AND MY DAUGHTER WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING, AND I WOULD NEVER (NEVER EVER) DO ANYTHING TO JEOPARDIZE MY FAMILY. BUT...EVERY TIME I HEAR "NO RHYME OR REASON" BY GEORGE DUKE (WHICH IS VERY FEW AND FAR IN BETWEEN) I THINK ABOUT MY FIRST COLLEGE BOYFRIEND. (SORORS AND SISTERFRIENDS, YALL KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT...THAT FIRST BOYFRIEND AWAY FROM HOME!! ) IS IT JUST ME? DO ANY OF YOU HEAR A CERTAIN SONG, AND YOU CAN'T HELP BUT TO THINK ABOUT "BACK IN THE DAY" FOR ONLY A MINUTE? IF SO, WHAT'S THE SONG?

Oh goodness, please don't get me started...
I know exactly what you mean. That certain song, smell (especially smell!) can take you back...but only let it for a moment. Appreciate it and then walk away. If you don't, it can have serious ramafications (the devil is a sneaky joker!)

Hm.. does anybody know "Higher" from D'Angelo's first CD? Well, that was my song with my first serious boyfriend... nearly three years ago. I heard it the other day and got completely choked up. I felt silly for a minute, but then I just let the memories come back... I don't think there's harm in doing that every once in awhile... ahhh nostalgia...

I feel ya too, girl ,
Everytime I hear a "Ready for the World" song, I think about my old girlfriends.
"Let me love you dowwwwwwwwwn
Even if it takes all night
Let me love you dowwwwwwwwwn
You know it's gonna be so right"
UMMMMMMM
Um with DreamCatcher,
Take a moment or two to reflect
Then walk away and LET IT GO!
That's what um talkin about.
Late 80's and early 90's,
when slow songs were slow songs.
You didn't have to say anything.
Just press play and let the music do it for ya

LOL
My first college boyfriend used to call my answering machine and sing Jodeci's (Come and Talk to Me)! I still cheese and grin when I hear that song! Oh, the memories...
But they're truly that-- just memories. To me, it's kind of like, a tap on the shoulder and someone whispering in my ear 'remember when'. I accept it as nostalgia for youth, for what used to be! Then I shake my head, and keep on rollin!

The songs that makes me remember my first REAL boyfriend are:
1. Sunshine & Crying Overtime (Alex O'neal's HEARSAY)
2. Good Love & Same Old Love (Anita Baker)
The songs that make me remember my first fiance (I know, I know) are:
1. Stay (Jodeci)
2. Diamonds And Pearls (Prince)

Now, you know that you're not the only one! I am also VERY HAPPY and married but every time I hear "For The Good Times" By Al Green, I cannot help thinking about a fellow of the past...remember that ommercial that said "Music is Life" I totally agree!

I too am happily married, but hearing one chord of Roy Ayer's "Third Eye" takes me back to an old beau...as does "Let's Get Closer" by Atlantic Starr (though I hate that such a beautiful song is associated with such an ugly relationship in my mind).
Now, thankfully, lots of songs get my remembering the early years/present with my life mate, like "All I Do" by Stevie Wonder (yes, the deep house/disco can be romantic!), "Adore" by Prince, "Spend a Lifetime" by Jamiroquai "Hard Times" and "Sunshower" by Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band and almost anything from Jill Scott's CD.
