Americans Fleeting Nation's Big Cities

-------------------------------------------------------------
As someone who has lived in the suburbs all of my life, I want to do the opposite. I'm sick of seeing the generic 3br and 2bth houses, the chain restaurants, and the strip malls everywhere I go.
Any long street in STL county (with some exceptions) looks like this
McDonald's
Applebee's
Kohl's
A Strip Mall
Taco Bell
Denny's
Best Buy
Walmart
Target

I would be the guy threatening to kill your dog if it doesn't stop barking in a large city.
I really dislike living around people. In fact hate or loath may be a better term. I grew up with no neighbors in sight of my house, let alone hearing distance.
My friends that live in high pop. dense areas always bitch about their neighbors doing this or that, snooping around, in their business, gossiping, etc.
No thanks. Give me the country with a 20 min drive to get anywhere.

Ah, Great to Live In Kansas City!
@ 20-30 Minute drive to anywhere, but also, there are many Loft Projects going on in the Down Town Area Core along with a lot of revitialization for nightlife and the arts.
I hate traffic in some of the Burbs of KC and KC Ks is still somewhat pristeen in areas but still growing.

I'll always be a city mouse -- I'd rather live in a small house near downtown than a big house in the suburbs.
I'm assuming that the people moving out to the "exurbs" are first-time homebuyers, right? After you buy a house, you're not going to be forced to move because prices increase.

First timers and people looking for a bigger house or a bigger yard, I reckon.

I love living in a city - I'll be moving to the burbs for law school, but after school I imagine I'll be back in a city.

I love where I live. It's a "not too crowded" suburb with creeks and trees and some sense of a small town community that is only 20 miles from the city, where I work and can take advantage of the shows/sports/restaurants, etc. Yet, when I sit on my deck in my backyard, I feel I'm in the middle of nowhere, on a vacation, with the wild life, creek, flowering cherry trees, etc. It's the perfect combo for me!

That's like where I live now. I can be in Baltimore or Annapolis in 20 minutes and Washington, D.C. in 45 minutes but I live in a quiet neighborhood at the end of a peninsula where there's not much development going on. I pass two horse farms when I'm driving my daughters to school!
I never thought I'd end up living in the suburbs, but I did the obligatory stint in NYC in the years after college so I can say I've been there, done that and got the t shirt

So, You know it all?
God envy is My Middle name! The best of all worlds to be sure.
People who want to live in the Real Burbs with big lawns are STOOPID!
I like My 2 bed room duplex with only a 1 car garatge (Not Big Enough) but with a Yard that takes 1 hour to cut and 1/2 hour to trim sucks, Hugely!
I would like to live in a one floor condo two bed rooms, with a two car garage, no steps, no grass. Eden for Me!
