Question Religious v. racial slurs

Question for discussion:

Do slurs/nasty/ignorant comments (for lack of better other way to explain what I mean) about your religion offend you?

Do you view them perhaps the same way as if someone was making derogatory remarks about your race/ethnicity?

Oh yes. Big time.
I've put in WAY more than two cents on this topic.

nope. Words can't hurt me. I just let them live in their own pit of ignorance. Damn, that was good. I got a new title for my future album.

"Words can't hurt me?" I think that was used in an old children's song.

Seriously, though, I tend to take comments about religion with somewhat less seriousness. The other things, I can't change, but religion is my personal choice. If I can choose it, I can defend it.

That explaination doesn't make a lot of sense, but that's just the way I look at it.

No, I can't be offended by the mistake of another, or their ignorance, or their meanness, concerning my race or religion.

Since I'm no religion, I'd say no. I do hate it when people say ignorant things about atheism, but ignorant people say ignorant things; I have no room in my life for ignorant people.

Maybe I'd feel differently if I was raised in a religion or was part of one that was tied to my ethnic identity (for example, being an Ashkenazi or Sephardic Jew or Irish or Italian).

Yes they do, and more so than racial ones. I (like many others) am of mixed ethnic backgrounds. Most people don't know what racial slurs to use

I agree with both Munchkin and DeltAlum. Since I'm not religious, people can't really insult me as much as they can with actually religions. They can say ignorant things, but that reflects much worse on them than it does on me. And since my religion is a choice that I made, I feel like it's a lot easier for me to defend it than, say, my race. It's more like defending my political beliefs -- which y'all know I do enough of.

If it's an outright ignorant attack yes; hell any ignorant attack on race, religion, creed, or sexual orientation pretty much pisses off.

Nah, I don't care at all what people have to say about my ethnic background or my religious affiliation (or, for that matter, my GLO ).

It's ridiculous to devote ones energy to being bothered by what jerks say, IMO.

i just have a problem when ignorant people tell me i'm not christian because i'm catholic. i also don't like it when people apologize to me becuase i'm catholic. i'm not sorry i am, why should they be? it's a bigger deal to me because i've never been referred to by a racial/ethnic slur. most people in my city are german and/or irish too.

Ignorant comments or attacks on my religion do irritate me, yes. Yes, members of every religion have done or said stupid things. We're human.

In this ulta-PC world we live in, suddenly I'm a jerk because as a Christian, I think that Jesus is THE way. Well if I thought there was multiple ways I wouldn't be a Christian!

It's really really hard to offend me.

It's not what is said for me, it's how it's said.

Sorta of. When I moved to GA last year and I when people asked what church I go to I told them. They then asked was kind of church was it. I would say Roman Catholic. I would get anything from rolled eyes to "but you seems like such a good christen girl"(don't ask)

I then got used to it....
