Hey ladies!
Is today Malcolm X Day? Should it Be? How should we honor him on this day?

I think we should teach our children about what happened on this day and make sure the media focuses some attention on it...I haven't heard anything about today being the anniversary of his assisination, other than from a soror in an email message.
Personally, I guess I always reflect more on him on his birthday in May, the same way I do with MLK. It seems more fitting to celebrate their births than deaths, though their deaths are important for the lessons they teach about human goodness and evil.

TOA,
Is today the day that Malcolm X was assasinated? Is that why you are thinking we should be celebrating today? Most of the celebrations that I am aware of are surrounding his May 19th birthday.

You are correct; today is the day he was assasinated. My point for mentioning it is how it happened, and by whom. It's more than a coincidence that his death came at the hands of black men; and for what? Selling out our own for money MUST STOP. As real and valuable as Malcom was to us, I'm not surprised that many of us haven't learned the lessons of his death-let alone those lessons from his life.

Ditto to all that was said. But I also want to add that we as Black children growing up were NEVER taught about Malcolm X. It was always Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks or some other widely know African American. Don't get me wrong I think it is wonderful to know about these people, but there are MANY MANY other black people beside these. Personaly, I think they have just ignored Mr. X.
thanks
