GroundHog's Day ....What's Really going on??
Ok, so why did I wake up last week to a news reporter who was on assignment covering GroundHog's Day? Why were there hundreds (if not thousands) of people braving the bitter cold eagerly awaiting the appearance of a dam rodent? Why does this giant squirrel looking thing have a name? Why is it Phil? Why, when Phil finally graced the crowd with his appearance, was I sitting up straight, anticipating his forecast? Why was I highly upset when he saw his shadow? Why are we allowing this woodchuck to predict when Spring is coming?? Why doesn't Phil get his own commercial like Cleo, the psychic hotline lady with the fake Jmaican accent? Just Curious folks.

I am feeling your pain. Friday my daily dose of weather, traffic & news was interrupted as HUNDREDS of people crowded around this "mansion" in Lawrenceville, GA awaiting the appearance of General Beauregard Lee, PH.D. YES, one of the universities in Atlanta (I think it was GA State) gave a RODENT a doctorate! How can I be down? Can I tell you, these people were CHANTING and from what I hear a few had signs. I mean come on, it's an ANIMAL, no more capable of predicting the weather than the meterologists that get paid to so the same.

FYI...
Well, at least you all do the groundhog...
Down here, we have a rat called a NUTRIA!
It determines if we will have 6 more weeks of winter or not...He did not see his shadow last week...

I can't believe this. A rodent has a PH.D! Something is wrong with that picture.

Since we are talking about groundhogs (gh), I have a few questions:
1) Do they put the gh in the ground and then wait for him to come out? Or is he down there hibernating or what? If they don't put him in the ground, how do they know he'll come out?
2) And are we watching to see if IT sees it's shadow, or if WE see it's shadow?
3) If it's overcast on 2/2, isn't it a waste of time?
4) Exactly what do gh's do? Like beavers hook us up and build dams. What do groundhogs do? Chuck wood? And what the hell is chucking wood, anyway?
5) Does anyone know how this crazy tradition came about? What idiot woke up on 2/2 and said to himself (b/c you know it had to be a man), "I bet if Grover Groundhog sees his shadow today, blah, blah, etc."??
I guess that's all. I'm interested in the answers. For real, I am.

I apologize for keeping the madness going, but I had to get Monique's questions answered (after I finished laughing at them of course). In my quest to find the history of "the day," I found: Punxsutawney Phil.com
Yes, boys & girls, ladies & gentlemen, Phil has a website, complete with pictures of those who came to witness his day in the sun...um, snow.
But WAIT!! There's more! "More," you say? Yes, MORE!
The OFFICIAL Site of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club
WHERE WILL THE MADNESS END??
***now back to our regularly scheduled program***
The origins of Groundhod Day, along with a record of "predictions" can be found here: Groundhog Day History from Stormfax.

ROFLMAOSHTMSHLH!!!!
First of all I died with the CLEO comparison. I hate her and her fake accent. . . "da cards dem never lie"
SECOND I AM MAAAAAAAAAD @ Monique's DEEP THOUGHT Questions!!!!!!!
THIRD, I am MAD that some groundhog, has a PH.D and a sista is working hard and will continue to work hard for it.
BUT MOST OF ALL I AM MAD THAT KELLI SOUGHT information like it is for her SENIOR THESIS!!!!
I think the groundhog is another one of da man's superstitions but hey people watch eagerly as evidenced by some people's testimonies.

Kelli, I read the WHOLE history on groundhog's day (why am I not working??). It was actually interesting. That animal has had more exposure than some famous people. He even got to go on the Oprah Winfrey show!!!! Amazing. Thanks for seeking the information like it is for your SENIOR THESIS!!
