Your City's Official Nickname?
Does the place where you currently reside have an official nickname or a certain meaning? If so, what is it?

Charlotte = The Queen City
Named after Queen Charlotte, a Black queen who was also German. She gave birth to 13 kids (or was it 15 or 17? -- I need to look at her statue).

Athens, Georgia = "The Classic City" (named after Athens in Greece, I believe)

New Orleans is called "The Big Easy" because everything is slow and easy-going. It is also called the "Crescent City" because of the crescent of the Mississippi River.

Wow! You are from Newnan?? My mom grew up there!
Albany, GA : The Good Life City (so not true!)
Atlanta, GA: Hot Lanta ( because it is such a "hot" place to be I guess) or The City too Busy to Hate. Coined by the Editor of the Atlanta Journal or Constituation (when they were separate papers) Henry Grady during the Civil Rights Movement. Atlanta is actually looking for a "brand" right now. There is a committee for it and everything.
Edited to correct the name of the editor. I thought it was Ralph McGill, but it was Henry Grady

Syracuse, NY~ The Salt City
Salt was discovered in several swamps in Syracuse, which brought more settlers to the area, and eventually gave the city the nickname "Salt City".

Windy City=Chicago
Because of the shear off of the lake, and its very accurate. In the winter, you can get your coat blown off and that hawk makes it feel a full 10-20 degrees colder.

They had 15. I'll try to post a pic of her:
Queen Charlotte-Sophia of Mecklenburg-Streitz (we're in Mecklenburg county).

Mississippi - "The Delta" (where i am from originally);
And no, we do not still ride to school on cows nor does everyone pick cotton as a favorite past time. We don't run from KKK's and yes we are still kountry as before with a whole lotta southern hospitality!
(believe it or not people still ask these questions)
