Walkie Talkies

Does anyone here have this cellphone feature? Are they really any better than just making the call??? Is it less expensive than making a call??

If I have to hear that "deet da deee" shut off after each side completes their side of the "conversation", I will strangle someone! Now, instead of just hearing one end of a useless cellphone coversation (actual converation I heard) :

"Where are you??"

"What are you doing??"

"No, just having a drink..."

"Yeah, I know..."

" I'll be here until 7..."

" NO, I'm not with anyone you know."

"K, bye!"

I NOW get to hear the equally asinine responses:

"I'm home"

"Nothing. Whatcha doing? Are you at the mall?"

"I haven't had a drink in a long time!"

"What time ya there til?"

"Is that John?? I don't know that voice! Have I met that person??"

"Well, there's no need to be snippy. Call me when you get to the mall!"

I think you can turn that off, unless it's a frequency-clearing tone like the old 'Quindar' beep heard during old Apollo moon missions used for the same purpose.

Not much better or cheaper than making a regular cell phone call. Cingular jumped on the bandwagon after Nextel's walkie-talkie phone virtual monopoly.

I have one on my work phone and I pretty much only use it for work. Sometimes if I'm going out with some people from work I'll hit them up to make plans, but I would never actually have a conversation on one. I was at my brother's football game the other weekend and a woman was having a real conversation on one, and it was so annoying. On Nextel phones you can turn the speaker off so not everyone hears the other side of your conversation or the beeping. I don't know about the new Verizon ones.

It can be cheaper to use the walkie-talkie than making a call, depending on your plan. Our work plan has unlimited walkie-talkie use, but I know my sister has a Nextel and has a certain number of minutes she can use. It's not really better than making a call though, because if the person isn't there to answer your call, they won't be there to respond to your alert.

Finally, I have the Nextel for work and a regular Verizon phone for personal use. I find that the Nextel service is horrible...I lose signals all the time. But, more people are on the Nextel walkie-talkie network than Verizon's, but that could change soon, since Verizon's technology is brand new.

I hate them so much. It's so irritating.

The sales guys at work use them, but they don't use them for work, they play with them. So all you hear is 2 grown men having little boy converstations and no one is getting any work done.

It's easier to use the phone.

My husband used to work for a company that sold Nextel's and he would use one for work. I hated it because if some alerted him either late or early and he didn't answer it just became annoying. He also lost service all the time. Personally I like cell phones better.
