CLEMSON, S.C. --
A fraternity at Clemson University has been suspended following a complaint that a pledge was struck during fall rush.
Pi Kappa Alpha has been suspended until May 15, 2005, said Joy Smith, dean of students.
The fraternity won't be able to participate in rush activities, pledge new recruits or participate in university events during the suspension, Smith said.
Pi Kappa Alpha will have to apply to return to campus following the suspension, she said.
The pledge allegedly was struck on Oct. 14 while reciting information he was supposed to have memorized, Smith said.
Clemson has strict rules on hazing and has taken steps to cut back on the problem, Smith said. Blindfolding, scavenger hunts and forcing pledges to wear clothes inappropriate for the weather are all against the rules, she said.
