Angry Badge

Ladies~ I need some advice on an issue. While I was neutral we initiated a few girls who hadn't made grades. Well, one of their bigs wasn't there and my grandlittle loaned MY badge out to her.....Well, our new initate passed my badge along to her big sister who brought it to our meeting to give to my biological little sister who's in the chapter to pass along to me since I was away....yeah, kinda confusing. But through all the people the three of them managed to lose it. We all know around here how much that badge means because of how long we waited to get it. Well, that was the ONE Chi Omega thing that I would be devastated if I had lost......well now, they are telling me that they lost it. How would you all handle this, because I don't think I should have to be the one to replace it, especially since I was NO WHERE around for the past 8 weeks, except working with Panhellenic........and I just feel awful asking another sister to replace it, even if they did lose it. What would you all do, I'm so upset that it's gone. I haven't worn it in a year since my littles have had it and it was one of the huge things I was looking foward to when I returned home.

Hmmm...that's a tough one. I guess what I'd do would be to call all of the sisters together who wore it, passed it down, etc. and ask them what they think would be a fair resolution to this.

Hmm, that's an idea...

Or, if someone will fess up to being the last one to have it, they really should replace it...

Someone's gotta pay for it! It would be the sisterly thing for the one to lost it to pay for the new one! That's just the right thing to do. If you can't get them to pay for it, I'd talk to your President or Advisor.

I think if you disscuss it with them they will agree that either all of them need to split the cost-if you can't figure out who actually lost it-or the person who lost it needs to pay for it. Obviously it is a tough situation but they will realize how unfair it is that you no longer have a badge.

I just don't want to hurt my sisters by asking that they pay for a new one for me......but to me, that was the thing that I was MOST excited to get during my new memeber period. It was something that for the longest time I couldn't wear, and I earned it....and now that I'm finally back to my chapter and can wear it again, and all my littles and grandlittles have their own.....I get all excited only to find out, it's lost. The thing is, I know who lost it and who had it last, I just don't want to put her in a bad situation

I'm actually really surprised that she hasn't offered to buy a new one. I know it's a lot of money but maybe if you don't feel comfortable taking to her about it someone who you or she is closer to can mediate and work out a payment plan or something that is reasonable for both of you-maybe splitting the cost 75%/25% or something. I'm sure she feels horrible about it, but don't not discuss it b/c you don't want to put her out. After all, you feel horrible about it too!

Okay then, well it seems to me you have two choices -- either buy a new badge yourself, or the person who lost it is responsible for it.

Hi -- sorry to butt in on y'all's thread but wanted to suggest: please be sure to check ebay for your badge -- there seem to be a lot of Chi O badges that end up there being auctioned -- also if there is some insurance coverage perhaps that can help pay for the cost of replacing it? At least file a claim, if the badge did end up on ebay at least you could show a trail of ownership to possibly get the badge back...good luck, I feel really bad for all concerned with this...

We actually had a Gamma Phi who found her badge this way -- thru our Badge Task Force's watchful eyes though -- it had been stolen & fortunately a police report had been filed and also more fortunately the seller did give the badge back (we may have had to pay something, I am not sure -- some sellers have to be convinced to do the right thing by the police though, sad to say)...also I found a Kappa badge at a local antique show in Atlanta and alerted the Kappa Keepers of the Key (their Badge watchdogs, so to speak!) and they were able to buy the badge long-distance from the seller (I had gotten all of his contact info & passed it on to them) and it ended up the badge had been STOLEN 20 years ago in Kansas City!!! The owner lived in Seattle now & was thrilled to get it back and can now pass it along to a legacy daughter...

In our chapter, we have had this happen to two sisters (their littles lost them, both within hours of getting them) and the littles replaced the badges...Since the "loaning" is a tradition, it seems only natural that the person who lost it would replace it, no questions asked. I wouldn't feel bad about asking them since they all should know how they would feel if they lost theirs.
