Post Looking for Alum

Hello ladies,

The Delta Epsilon chapter is looking for alum. With the help of the new alum chapter, many alums that were out of contact are now in contact, but with the approach of our 20 yr anniversary we want to find as many as possible to make sure they don't miss out on the event.

Also a not to Michigan alum, although the windsor alum chapter is just DE alum at the moment, you are welcome to join us and help us broaden our perspective to include our sisters across the border.

An email address has beeen created for this purpose, but i forgot it , so email the active chapter, please.

Unhappy alumni connections

So often i hear from the fraternities that their alumni support them monetarily and by still participating in events, such as rush and homecoming. I hope some of you have the same stories to tell, and if you do, please tell me how you keep such good relations. do you send out a monthly newsletter? ask for yearly contributions? we could definitely use the funds, and we have 200 alumni, but i don't want to put them off by asking for contributions. i thought about an auction of phi sig stuff that we could invite alumni to and they could bid on, but i don't know if anyone would show up or even bid. if you all have any ideas they would be greatly appreciated! love and roses,
Angi

Angi,

How active is the local Phi Sig alumnae chapter? How often does your chapter invite them to an event? Are Phi Sig alumnae serving as your advisors?

When you say there are 200 alumnae in the area, are those just alumnae from your chapter or all alumnae in the area?

I have several suggestions - I'm president of my alumnae chapter and just worked long and hard over the last few years to improve relations between us and the collegians. It's worked well and we now have great participation and communication between the alumnae and collegian chapter.

A fellow state schooler here

Hi Angi, I'm an ASA alum from Clarion, so I will gather that the situations are similar!

Number one is to make sure you keep the alums involved and up to date on what is happening. If you don't have a website MAKE ONE. I'm assuming from the size of your alum base that your chapter is fairly young, so the majority of alums should have computer access or at least be computer literate. Even if you do have that in place, try to send a physical newsletter at least once a year. And don't just fill it with what you are doing - ask the alums to contribute too.

When alums do come to visit, don't be afraid to loosen up around them once you get to know them! They probably still like to do a lot of the same things you do, so don't think you need to get out the tea set and white gloves just cause they're 10 years older than you.

Does PSS have something set up that you can set up a chapter-based association, rather than the regional type alum chapter? If so, definitely look into it. (Barbara - Shippensburg [like most PA state schools] is basically located in the middle of nowhere and students often leave the area after graduating, so getting a traditional regional alum chapter together - let alone one with enough manpower and money to help the collegians - can be difficult.)

Contacting alums can be frustrating, but you have to not give up. You never know when a "lost sister" will come back into the fold and make a huge difference. Good luck!

(aack, sorry for the long winded post )

Cool Gamma Gamma Alumni

I noticed Gamma Gamma has quite a showing at this site. I graduated from Clarion in 1997 and have some great memories (of most nights)! It's good to see the chapter is still going strong! Good luck!

I'm not in your family, but I spent a crazy spring break in Panama City with Sue Corbett and a few other sisters. Lisa Lawson was my little but I don't know who came after her in the family. My maiden name is Kapelski and I feel kind of old admitting this, but I pledged in the spring of 1994. I don't know if my alumni information is updated so I'll have to email it. Later.

Thanks for the family info! I miss all the good times I had when I was there. Growing up kind of sucks but eventually we all must do it. Give my family a big hello from me!

Hey there,
I'm not from Gamma Gamma, but your talk about family trees got me excited. Last night we had our chapter's 20 yr formal and 9 of our 12 local founders were there! It was great meeting them. I got to meet the "mother" of my family tree(we have about 16 "rungs" on our tree) It was fun! I'm one of the few in my chapter that can trace back to the beginning!

Thanks for letting me share,

LITP

Thanks for sharing! I have no idea who my family tree goes back to. I know most families in Gamma Gamma have branched off so many times that it's pretty confusing to figure out the trees.

Talking My tree!

Our chapter was founded in 1971 by, oh geez... about 21? sisters? Then we lost our charter in 85, got it back in 86, and thats when our recent trees start (although some sisters from the 71 era were sisters in 86... if you know what I mean)

My family founder, well I have 2 in my family, the main one is Tina Falce, she lives up the street from me, according to CO, and Ive writeen to her, and do I get letters back?! No. Blah!

We had a founder of Beta Xi Omega come back during ALF! BZO was the local that formed our chapter of Phi Sig, it was so cool to have her note at the house! (we missed her)

I can still name the refounders of our chapter (proving that I am, in fact, a huge dork)

There's nothing wrong with being a dork. I myself am a self professed nerd. Who knew I would end up enjoying nerdy type books about history and the unified theory of quantum physics and the theory of relativity. Did I mention I am a member of the National Geographic Society? You'd probably never guess if you had known me a few years ago. All I can say is... if the Loomis walls could talk...

How is bar life at CUP? Is that old guy who dances by himself still shaking his groove thing at the Loomis? I think his name is Gib. He was a really nice old guy. I felt bad for him so I danced with him on one my drunken escapades.
