Wink Calling All Fashion Forward Alpha Gams!

Girls, I need a little help! I have a VERY special event coming up this Thursday, and I need to look great. I bought a brand new cream-colored silk suit that looks too cute on.

The question is: do I *have* to bite the bullet and wear cream hose and a taupe heel? What other suggestions do you have from the knees down for a cream suit? Help, please!

Maria, personally, I wouldn't wear all cream...depending on the exact color, you could probably wear nude or tan hose with a strappy brown sandal or even a black pump. Obviously I haven't seen the outfit so you're going to have to use your best judgement!

Ooooh, fashion - fun!

It looks as though you're in LA... with warm weather I'm sure you could get away with no hose and some strappy sandals? For some reason I'm thinking of some off-white linen covered sandals or something... maybe even strappy black if it's not too heavy for the light suit. Any pictures of the suit on the net?

If you have to go the hose route, I would go for an extremely sheer off-white, and play around with the shoe options.

Good luck!

Another thought... a nude/camel strappy sandal? Now I'm browsing nordstrom.com - this could be hazardous to my wallet!

hmmm I dont know. I like the bare legged sandel thing and even though I know black sandels would go to, for some reason Im in the "everything must be the same color or close to it phase now", so I say go for a strappy taupe, beige or brown shoe. Nude stockings too.

Is it a pants suit or a dress suit. If a pants many you can getaway with what Jennifer Aniston did with hers and wear not shirt under it and only do about 2-3 buttons on the jacket.

Maria,

From one fashion forward, warm weather chick to another...definitely go no pantyhose & strappy sandals! Is your suit a pants suit or skirt? I have a light cream suit & I wear strappy black sandals w/ a black purse with it.

Go very strappy...like one super skinny strap across the toes & another holding it to your ankle. You can't go wrong!

Also, if you think the event is too conservative for the super sexy strappy black sandals look, opt for strappy linen. (You know which side I'm on though!)

You'll look great no matter what you choose to put on your feet.

Jen

Thanks for the tips, everyone! Let me explain a little further. This is the type of event where I want to look very classy and professional, but stylish at the same time. I am dressing to impress here, ladies! I know...that's a tall order for one outfit!

The suit is a skirt suit, with a three button jacket and the skirt falls knee length. There is also a matching cream shell that goes under the jacket, but I'm not going to wear that. I'll find a pretty shell that contrasts with it.

Sweetie, I was rolling when I read that! I'm definitely NOT that confident about my body, PLUS I don't think Sean would let me leave the house like that! LOL

I'll let you know what I decide to do.

When you find the shell, why don't you match the shoes to that?

YESSSS!!! Match your shoes & handbag with the shell you get! That'll be perfect! I would recommend a beige-ish (leaning more toward dark brown) with it. It would be more professional that a loud color.

I have just a few concerns. If this is a nice event, I wouldn't wear strappy sandals, first-that isn't going to look very classy with a nice cream suit and you shouldn't wear sandals to a nice professional event anyways, at least I wouldn't. Second, personally I have a HUGE issue with nylons and open toed shoes-I think you have to decide what kind of look you are going for and go with it, not combine. To me, nylons with open toed shoes reminds me of old ladies. I would say like a golden brown sling back, closed-pointed toe pump, maybe with like a slim wooden heel and a golden brown bag with maybe a classic"coach" like handle. Banana Republic usually has great stuff like this!!

I thought this would be a good thread to pose this question...

My sister Lori & I are going to the wedding of two really good friends in October. Very classy affair. Lori has some really cute black open toed shoes she is going to wear. Since it is October, and it is a formal evening wedding, does she need to wear pantyhose? She is considering wearing the toeless hose, which would work with these shoes, but she really doesn't want to. Anybody have any advice?

PS. We both have ex's that will be in attendance. We might need more advice as we get closer to the date.

Its October, so I say go for the Bare legs. I even did it for my Initiation which was in Dec ('2000). I am not the hose type of person. Its either bare legs or pants.

I would say to wear:
nude hosiery - you're wearing a classic suit, have to go with the polished look hosiery gives you
closed toe shoe (but maybe have an open back) - classic look, open-toe looks too strappy for the heaviness of a suit sometimes

I would say in order to make the outfit pop would be to keep things minimal, a contrasting camisole might draw attention away from the suit and you. I would say keep the attention on your beautiful suit and use one of those chucky necklaces with the big pendant as your impact. It keeps your colors minimalistic, but yet adds the splash you need.
