Red face STOOPID rush questions?

Okay. Y'all have had the "why X got cut" thread, and the "what should I talk about" thread, and the "things you can't discuss during rush" thread. I wanna start a stoopid questions thread.

Not to make fun out of any individuals, please, but I know there have got to be some weird questions out there. One chapter I know of needed to think of the answer to some really bizarre questions, so they could answer on their feet, but this?:

"What vegetable would your sorority be?"

That just takes the cake. (Especially since, even if they've rehearsed it, you know *someone* will forget and answer something like "apple" or "cucumber" anyway! ) And yes, apparently at least one PNM had asked that question in the past.

I’m a little confused but are you saying girls come to rush events and purposely ask stupid questions to try and throw off the rusher or do they just do it as a way to be remembered?

Or do they just do it because they're weird?

We had one girl yap our heads off about the Care Bears one year. We had no clue what the hell to do.

Another weird question

Possibly the rushee with the veggie question had actually gone through some psychological training and the answer to the question was supposed to reveal the subject's true personality? I am currently looking for a job and my last interviewer asked me, "If you could meet any person in history, who would it be?" My husband has a lot of training in human resources and questions like that are used in job interviews, though the veggie is taking it a little far. Not that I don't think the veggie question is weird too, I was just trying to make sense of it.

A lot of times, those questions are asked in fun. I'll do that many times just because they catch people off guard and get them to loosen up. I'll usually ask what their favorite breakfast cereal is or their favorite cartoon character. I wouldn't read into those questions much. Not that I don't think that the veggie question is kind of odd, but questions like that aren't supposed to be taken seriously.

IMHO, one of the questions that always rubbed me the wrong way is "What is your brother fraternity?"

With that statement, you've just told me that you're much more interested in meeting guys than a sisterhood, and that you're going to rank a sorority on which guys they prefer.

Yes, I do know that a couple sororities are founded or mentored or whatever by men, especially greek men, but I always found that question, well, rather pathetic.

lol. i acutally had a 20 minute conversation during rush last year over '80's television, cartoons, etc including Care Bears. she didn't come back the next day, but i was "rescuing" another sister from a painful conversation when i jumped in and started talking to that particular person. sometimes you just get wierd conversations going.

I think sometimes people are trying to be funny or find a common link, and something that sounded really good in their head doesn't sounds at all good when it is said out loud.

Recruitment is like a job interview; I've been asked my favorite holiday and why, if I was a brand of ice cream what would I be, etc--- people like to see how you respond as a means to get a sense of your inner self.

I would be willing to guess that any sorority member asked the above questions about what holiday/ice cream her sorority would be, she would reply 1) Multicultiral Appreciation Month, b/c we're so diverse! and 2) Rainbow Sherbert because we're so diverse!

That's not to offend anyone; I think it is univerally acknowledged and a bit of an insiders joke that we sorority women strive for diverse membership so that we're not bland vanilla ice cream with everyone being the same.

Smiles to all! I have gotten some and given some interesting answers over the years....
And for the record, I love mint chocolate chip and my birthday is my favorite holiday!

Now remember, girls...there are no stupid questions, only stupid people

(Sorry, it had to be said )

Seriously, there are some girls I could take any question from because they present themselves very well. Some girls...I don't know...they just give me a weird vibe.

Examples of stupid question would be...

"So why is your sorority the smallest?"
"Didn't you kick out a lot of members last fall?"
"Are all of you so... blonde and skinny?" (add sneer in)

And if someone asked me what kind of veggie KD was...I would laugh hysterically.

I have actually heard similar questions. Our colors are pink and blue. We get the obvious "baby shower" references.

i actually had a conversation with some PNMs one semester while driving them back to the school after an event. It was the night before voting and they were opening discussing not getting bids. They asked: so do you still call us if we aren't accepted?
I was rather dumbfounded and not to mention alone. Needless to say, they didn't come back on bid night.

On a similar note, one girl asked the final night of recruitment before voting: "so are you gonna go talk "sh*t about us now?"

I had one girl last fall ask me what the best bars in Columbia were.

I had another girl ask me why all the girls in all the houses were dressed up in "stupid identical costumes". I was a little offended to say the least, certainly not something to say to someone to get on their good side. I dunno.

Another girl asked me if we had beds in our chapter house or if we slept on the floor? Um, last I checked NO ONE did that? Where do they get these ideas?! Hehe

The best silly comment I had while giving a house tour was, "This house looks so dingy...does anyone ever clean your house" This was after we had been cleaning for several days! Needless to say she didn't get a bid anywhere on my campus!

Maybe my mother just raised me with a little more respect, manners and class, but I can't imagine saying things like I see mentioned on here! Were these girls raised by livestock? I can't imagine ever saying, "Why are you in stupid identical costumes?" Talk about testing the graciousness of your hostess to say the least... And insulting the house? Why are you bothering to even show up for recruitment? People that genuinely act like this really don't need a special event to act up in so that people dislike them; they can make people dislike them in any situation.

Ok, end of rant.
