Ghetto Coworker
I need to VENT-Why don't grown people know how to act? I am one of two Black women in an office and I swear everyday I want to choke the sista because she is trifling!! I feel like I have to work twice as hard to compensate for her ineptitude!! I know I shouldn't feel bad because she is a dummy but damn! Why is she 26 but walking around here with two ponytails, one on either side of her head, you know like we wore in the third grade? Why when we initially hired her, she took a piece of poster sized paper, put it on the wall next to her desk, and wrote "******'s corner" like she was in daycare(I didn't want to put her name out)
Then she brings her son to work, which is no big deal, all the moms do at one point or another, but you'd never know because the kids are not in the way and are well behaved! But of course her son destroys property and interrupts staff meetings. He poked the eyes out of my coworker's only picture of her cat that just died-she had the cat for 17 years-I would've beat his a$$.
Then she has a 19"tv, vcr and playstation for the days her son comes in,just disrupting the whole damn office, and I have to email her supervisor every other day to tell her to turn that damn Jill Scott cd down! Which is why I'm venting in the first place because I just had to tell her to turn the radio down. Why am I asking a grown person to turn their radio down ...at work? Isn't that like common sense or something, especially when you work in a small office environment? I won't even mention how loud she is....GET-TOE
Calgon take me away...........

Ok here I go with my deranged sense of humor...poked the eyes of the photo of the newly departed feline-- ROTFLMAO!!! I haven't heard anything so funny since Chris Rock said "niglet" on SNL!!!
About your ghetto co-worker, they are everywhere! I work in a MAJOR INVESTMENT BANK and you should see some of the chickens up in there. But wait, since my company is SO LARGE, they keep all of the ghetto bunnies on the same floor I kid you NOT, there is just no escaping these folks!

Exquizit: My boss worksdownstairs..away from all of us plus he's hardly ever here, but my supervisor is too busy trying to be everybody's friend, so she doesn't really care. Too scared that we might not like her or something. She has self esteem issues.....

HeartbrAKA I feel you.., though but after this smily YOU HAVE GOT TO FEEL BETTER.
Concerning that ghetto worker of yours, I have one question: are you the only black woman at work ?. If not, form a little group, wait for her at the end of the day, and let her know that her behavior is ... ...( how can I phrase that in a PC manner... ) making it difficult for projecting a positive image of herself. Then you go one example after another.
If that does not work you just tell her :
sistagirl stop being ghetto because you are geting on our last nerves...
and if that does not work... then it's on! lol 9 just kidding)

The sad part is I can actually picture this girl. "Hello this is BPTG&D and my name is Shameka, Alize, Pookita, LaRhonda, Tonawanda Johnson how can I help you"? With her two ponytails, long 9" finger nails and belly top shirt on. LAWD Hammercy, what a shame....

This thread is ROFL, especially the "ghetto bunnies" comment.
Straight take, however: Pulling the woman aside, or taking her to lunch probably is the best idea for tackling the situation. That's because you can get her one-on-one outside the office. When you talk, try to make her understand that she can do whatever she feels like on her personal time but that she's got to straighten it up and be about business on work time.
You hope she would appreciate your efforts. Bottom line, she's got a son and must be self-sufficient.

HeartbrAKA I feel your pain. We have BUSINESS casual dress here and since the weather got warmer...watch out now. Try pulling her over but I have to say it didn't work when I did it to a younger co-worker. I'm a Supervisor in a neighboring dept and this young lady was turned down for a postion. She said it was because she was black. I broke it down for her. She wears club gear to work, she makes TOO many personal phone calls, the list goes on. She told me no...that's not why. The position was for an Admin in the front office. Hoochie mama could not be the first thing our clients see.

That may not be such a good idea. If the chick is as ghetto as well all think she is, she may take the advice the wrong way and lash out on HeartbrAKA, which will cause more drama in the workplace . Just report her to her/your supervisor and if they don't do anything about it, then report the supervisor and VINAGRETTE HENNESSEY BACARDI JENKINS to a higher authority.

HeartbrAKA, I agree with Classy Diva--your approach may result in animosity. If you decide to approach Sha'kwan, you should only try the sister approach once. But excuse me for LMAO!
I used to work with a similar hoochie named LaDay Sh'nay (honest, this was her first name), her name, of course, she swore was of French origin.
And I know if the Jill Scott is blaring, she's got to be singing to it--they all do!

Yall got me crackin up over here!! I've decided to let her be because she won't understand my pulling her aside, as my Soror stated, she thinks her behavior is "normal".I don't need her flashin on me because then I'll have to turn into my alter ego "Booncrisha" and beat the hell out of her.LOL...This morning she goes into my supervisor's office(he was meeting with another employee) and start waving her ponytail around saying "look I bought some new hair!" I kid you not, I just had to laugh and thank God that I have sense and that I won't be here that much longer....

Chickens! Ghetto bunnies!
For a while, I was speaking with one of the deans about transfer credit. Her secretary was GHETTO-FABULOUS...I know people with really long nails who can type well, but her nails were inexcusable! Her hair is just tacky. I'm getting sick just thinking about it. To top it all off, she didn't know how to talk right. Grrrr...
How does this chicken (LMAXOAO!) do at work? If she was really a poor performer, wouldn't she have been shown the door by this point? Or is she being kept there for certain reasons?
