I get a Little!

I found out today I get a Little, and its the one I really wanted!! Her name is Kirsten. I rushed her 2nd round and Preffed her!!

Problem is, I'M BROKE!! So does anyone have any cute craft Ideas i could do?

My pledge semester I was pretty darn broke too! I wanted to get something for my pledge class! There were only six of us! So, I went to Wal-Mart and found these jars (they were actually a good size!) Then I got some of these foam sheets in pink and blue! I cut our letters our, and glued them on! Then went around them in puff paint, and spelled out her name! Then, filled it with candy! It was really cheap, and cost less than $3 per container total!

I sell stuff on ebay. Clothes I don't wear anymore etc etc. Its not too much of an income but every little bit helps! And the homemade stuff is always great! Pink/blue paintpins etc can make anything dg!

i have a question.. what costs are involved when a sister gets a little? i dont know if this relates to what your talking about or if anyone can tel me, but last night i was with two sisters and they were talking about it and the girl said there were two girls she wanted to be a big sister to, but she said she couldnt have both because that would be 500 dollars? I was confused..... anyone know what im talking about??

Gosh for me it didn't cost that much. I'd say around 50 bucks at most. The best way to do this stuff is to just be creative and go to walmart etc etc. You don't have to buy everything from anchortrader which can be expensive. We had set gifts to give like a pillowcase, a bullitenboard, and a jar of candy or something. It really shouldn't be too expensive although every chapter is different

It depends....

For Big/Lil, we buy them a tub to put all their gifts in...DG Keychain, Frame, Cup, and few other DG things. Then most sisters make bulleting boards, etc. You also buy their Big/Lil T-Shirt

Then Initiation you buy their Hannah doll($20) and their Disc(my family's is $50) plus more gifts.

When it comes to getting a little/being a big, it depends on how much you would like to spend. It shouldn't really matter the amount, its the amount of time and effort you put into being a big sis.

Coming from experience, I have been able to keep gifts for my littles under $70. I have 4 littles and each of them (along with me) have matching Big/Lil block lettered shirts. I also got each of them other little things, trinkets, stickers, note pads, pens, etc.

But like I said earlier, it takes more from a big sis than just presents....you need to be there for your lil throughout the time that you are in the chapter. They need to know that you will be there for them at any time. Its a special bond that you don't get with anyone else because there is a label attached to it. I love my littles (and have also adopted a couple more) and I'm going to miss them like crazy after I go alum in December.

It all depends on how much you want/can spend. I didn't keep track of how much I spent... I went to a huge craft store that one of my sisters recommended (got so lost going there and back, but it was totally worth it)... I got so many cute wooden things that I painted for her family tree and other little things. The standard thing to get her are her letters on initiation. I got her a bunch of other things (some are specific to our family traditions)! But as I said it all depends... I know one of my sisters went all out last year and bought her little letters ($20) and sweatshirt letters ($50), a Delta Gamma t-shirt ($20), along with a bunch of other goodies, costing her a lot. That's only for initiation. But when we first get our Littles, we're supposed to buy them little gifts leading up to Big/Little Revealing the following week. Then we get them a little gift(s) on Big/Little Revealing. And after that we're getting their gifts together for initiation.

When we(and all sororities on campus do this) get initiated, we get a silver disc that goes on a necklace. Mine has the crest on it and my initials and my big's initials along with my intitiation date on the back. There is also some detail work around the edges. Each family has a different designed disc.

lol, i was confused about the disc too.......my big got me 2 shirts that she made with letters, a pinbox, my lavilere, my hannah, my candle, and then there was a BUNCH of things she passed down that has been passed down through the family....bookends, ceramic figurines, picture frames, etc......whenever someone graduates in my family, they pass down as much of their DG stuff that they can bear to part with, so I've got some things that go way back.....that's really awesome, and I can't wait to pass them on too (Who knows, maybe my SS will get something

)

I get to have a little this semester too, and I'm looking forward to just showering her with little notes and little things to make her laugh and smile....my big got me silly putty and i loved it (it doesnt have to be huge or expensive to be memorable). I Def. am going to get her her Hannah and her candle (as those are both "required" gifts) but I may buy a plain candle and make it personalized and special.....I've been watching Ebay for inexpenisve cool things... (ie. wool Blanket with the crest on it that I got for $3!!) I'm so excited about recruitment and about getting my little! 2 weeks from today starts recruitment!!

Y'all are all on the right track! A little creativity in the Little department can go a long way! I used to go stand in Wal-Mart and just wait for ideas to hit me! The dollar store is also a good place to get little things! At every meeting, I'd bring my little a bag of candy, or make cookies or something. She loved it because everybody knew that I was thinking about her! There really is so much you can do! You never know where you'll find cool stuff! I liked making things, because it made it more special!

So Far:

A UGA Pennant
A Piggy bank I decorated with her name and "Party Funds" on it

A Yellow duckie soap dispenser(family tradition)
Disney Princess stickers
Frame I'm going to decorate
a glass Vase(I'm going to decorate it)
Trinkets- Nail polish, foot scrub, face masks, silly string, etc...

I also bought a scrapbook that I'm going to decorate and give her for initiation and a little wooden box that has a rose imprinted on it that I'm going to stain and make into a pin box.

I still have to go to the Greek store and get "required" items plus to the other Wal-mart to get a tote bag.

YAY! I love my little!
