You know, I haven't gotten that impression at our school. Most people I know want to rush, have good friends in greek orgs or don't care either way.

But then again I haven't been greek here yet so I haven't experienced it from that side yet (hopefully). But from this side I've never heard a lot of anti-greek attitudes.

Is it people in general, or certain groups?

Ours is great towards Greeks. The Pres. has in the last few years transformed our campus from a commuter school into a normal residential type university. Enrollment has gone up more than 50% since I first enrolled in '97. Throughout this period of growth, the University's leadership has always looked first towards Greek Houses.

They are in the midst of trying to establish a "strip" near campus, rescind the dry campus policy and other great things that I think will contribute to our growth. We've added 2 (3 if you count TKE being re-recognized) new chapters within the last 4 years and could probably take one or two more groups.

Once Alpha Xi gets up to "full capacity" they are leting Tri delt on campus... i dont think they are leting a new Fraternity on campus anytime soon, TKE needs to clean up and then things will start to happen...

Tri Delt? So that's actually settled?

As fast as you guys were able to get started I'm pretty confident another fraternity wouldn't really impact any of our rush numbers, just increase overall numbers of kids going through rush (exactly what happened when PKA came on).

Eh...Rio's administration is decent towards the Greek system.

The only unfriendly people here are the Greeks themselves towards eachother.

We have a fairly new president who is a TKE. He is very greek friendly, but it was kinda sad when our schools TKE chapter got their charter taken away in a very bad incedent. There was a thing released a while ago that 90% of what is acomplished on my campus is done by 20% of the schools populations, and 15% of that 20% is in Greek life.....those statistics really help stuff. our SGA is also mostly greek life. Usually the president is and alot of e-board.

It's pretty bad here at MTSU, once you account for it being a somewhat commuter campus, having a HUGE mass com department that is full of "Greek life is conformity central" and lots of art students who look at you like your the annoying fly about your head that they want to hit with a fly swatter... And then the general attitude of people when they realize that I'm not in a national sorority... But that has mainly come from other Greeks.

But, I'll have to say that we seem to have a pretty strong system with a good deal of people who respect the Greek Community. It really depends which department you're in. If you're in Art, they hate you, if you're in Education like me, it seems that 95% of your class is Greek...

Hahah I agree with the art school thing. I got to UHART, with has a seperate, very prestigious art school. I am also in it.......which makes life rather difficult, When you join the art school you are told NOT to join greek life because it will take away from your art work. It is a rather tiny school (the art school is only 300 students) and while the rest of my campus is very greek friendly, the art school however is not. We usually dont wear letter to class because the profs can be kinda mean about it and other students definitly can. 9 I know even my friends in the art school give me grief about it) It seems to be changing alot though, cause in the past there has been years when NO art students were in greek life, but right now I have 5 sisters in it, there is a few sigma kapps, a SAE and 2 sigma nus. hopefully it will be more accepted soon. ( on a side note the only teacher whos ok with it is a sculpture proffesor who is very old and was in a high school fraternity, but couldnt join one in college because he went to an all art school and regrets it)
