Post Fake AKA's??? What really happened?

I hope this question is appropriate, but if not please let me know. I heard from an individual and read in the Greek Life Forum that some fake AKA's were exposed in Chicago. As far as I have been told...a young woman decided to follow her own rules in initiating some other ladies and that they were caught. Then I heard that their pictures had been posted on the web. Is this true? Does anyone know what really happened. How should an interest go about verifying if their MIP is a legal one (not asking specifics - but who to ask)? All answers will be greatly appreciated.

Divine,

From one sisterfriend to another, may I offer this to you...don't concern yourself with such negativity. Just focus learning about the organization, getting to know the members of the chapter you would like to be a part of and making it the best experience possible. Have confidence that you WILL have the best intake process when it's your time. You will be told of proper procedure when the time comes and if you happened to be faced with a situation that is contrary to your belief systems, trust your heart..your intuituion. I know it can be hard not to think about what happened with this one or that one but if you remain focus then perhaps you can teach the next one to do the same and it will start a chain of positivity. From my viewpoint, part of the reason why these stories keep resurfacing(whether) there are true or not is that the issue keeps resurfacing. I also believe that negative stories tend to perpetuate the real vs. fake issue even further.

Sisterfriend again, don't fret . Focus on the positivity and trust that you WILL HAVE THE BEST EXPERIENCE POSSIBLE. All the best to you.

Question

Not to stir up any confusion but, how can sisterfriends like myself be aware when confronted with such groups like these. I know of people like this in my state. How does the National chapter handle incidents like this? I hope this was not prying into aka business. I just rather be informed rather than making a big mistake.

There are so many things about this post....but I'll make one short comment...

General rule for undergraduates: if the graduate advisor(s) ain't in it, it ain't right. Additionally, if you suspect something's not right, contact graduate advisor, the local graduate chapter, regional director or the corporate office. Contact info for these folks should have been given to you during rush. It's that simple.

Soror DG is absoulutely correct. The graduate advisor for my undergraduate chapter gave us cards with her name and numbers on them from the beginning. A grad chapter members was always available.

darling1 your post was very positive and on point, I would follow that info if I were a sisterfriend. And pertaining to what my Sorors have just stated, I must reiterate and make one point even more crystal clear ... A Grad Advisor &/or Assistant Grad Advisor should be present at ALL LEGAL EVENTS! But some of those Sorors may not be "correct" either so as Soror DG stated go on up the chain and you will soon find out if what you are doing is correct or not. But as darling1 stated, you should have some intuition stepping in when things seem wrong!!

Chrini

If your INTENTION is to be faced with negativity in your quest, then that is what you will receive. Honestly, if you focus on the sorority's history wholistically, focus on the positive aspects of the chapter that you are interested in as well as your grades, you won't have anytime to concern yourself with drama, in fact you will be able to nip any potential drama in the bud. If you find yourself confronted, ask yourself, do I want to be involved with this. If understand the magnitude of the organization, your answer will be simple. I know sisterfriends it is very difficult to see, but trust me, I have been there. I AM STILL THERE . But I recognized that a chapter is not an indication of the entire organization. Take some time and really look at the history of the founders. Put it all in perspective and then make your move. I don't mean to sound redundant but I get the sense that so many sisterfriends feel that they are caught between a rock and a hard place and you actually aren't. If you still feel unsure you can always e-mail me and we can chat further.

With much love

I am suspect about someone who says that she is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., because a lot of times thing don't add up. Her age changes, the years she was initiated changes, the number of people initiated with her changes etc. Would I be out of place to contact the chapter she claims to find out if she's legite?

Really, do you expect a reply from a chapter, if you are not a Soror or greek?

I think you might want to email a Soror (AKAtude) here for a private consultation!

PS..AKAtude..I put you out there cause I won't be in here until late Friday night!
I know you can HANDLE this! SW!

Didn't this tired email come up months ago? And how do we know that the person who put this site up is a soror? How do we know these girls are perping? There are some sick bastards out there, and some LOVE to see people get their panties in a knot over something like this...

i'm rotfl, this is too much, since i have seen or heard so much greek perping i don't trust that someone is real unless i see evidence, this is sad, because there are ways of finding out, but even that is not the best way to approach it since so many are looking for ways to get our info. we call each other soror over the net but really how do we know for sure with so much indiscretion out there. it is very sad to say the least. and yes this person may not be a soror, just a hater, who really knows.
