bid day celebration!

don't know if this has been brought up in a thread before, but i was just curious as to what everyone did for their bid day celebration. at slu, all the sisters and new members go swimming in all the fountains around campus and then go to a members house for a pool party and bbq. so much fun

We meet in the park on campus for Bid Day, then all the sororities go to a different spot on campus for professional pictures. We had a short ceremony where we were given our ribbons, although the actual pledging wasn't until a week later. Then we went to a member's apartment for a Phiesta! Great fun!!

Last year we took pictures, got our shirts, went out to eat, and went bowling. It was cool because the pledges and sisters really got to mix.

on our campus the ladies get their bids at Baker center and the revealing takes place there, and then they run with the newly affiliated members down to the houses. the fraternity membersare lining the streets watching, and every house has a DJ and food and tshirts and gifts for all the new members.

At my school all of the sororities go to the cabaret and the pledge classes are announced individually for each sorority. We get to take pictures with the sororities and we all get our gifts. Then all the sororities go to a local bar and we all just hang out there as one big group. It's a lot of fun.

The soccer stadium is right down the hill from the all greek res hall...So after all the pm get there, the sororities come down the hill singing and cheering...After the girls open their bids they go running to their new sorority....After we take our bid day pictures...Then we head back up to the res hall to our chapter room and have a huge lunch and what not...After that we generally try to move girls who want to live in into the hall...Then we do something for dinner...then that night they go through their alpha (new member ceremony)...Last year for the dinner we went to a local pizza place that has games and things and played there for a few hours....

The PNMs get their bids in the theater at the Memorial Union. Each sorority has gotten a few of their more . . . vocal members to represent them at the theater. After Rho Chi/Panhel rep revealing, all the sisters lead their new members back down Greek row towards their house, teaching them sorority cheers and songs which everybody is shouting at the top of their lungs. Back at the house we all take pictures, then hang out for a while getting to know our new sisters, and have dinner. Last year there was an all-sorority party at the student union after that, but I'm not if they're planning on doing that this year or not.

That sounds fun! For my bid day (Fall 2001), we ran to the chapter room, took pictures, and then the older members drove us to the general advisor's house for a cookout. In the Spring we took the new members to a campfire thingy on someone's farm, Fall 2002 we all had a picnic at a park pavillion, and Spring '03 we just took the bids to the girls' rooms.

This year we've rented out a pottery/beading studio where the new members can make cute things, and we'll eat there too.

Bid Day is always fun, but I must say I think the New Member Retreats are the best part of the whole year!

Back in my day, the PNMs received their bids in the classrooms of the education college's building, in their PX Traveling Groups. Then, all of the PNMS filed into the gym in the education college's building-- the bleachers were outfitted with banners the PX's made that had the letters of each of the UCF sororities-- so all the new members sat by sorority. Then, the Pan Exec came out and made a speech, and it was time to reveal the affiliations of Pan Exec and Recruitment Exec... then the PX's ran out in their real letters! But wait.... the PX's had actually swapped letters as a fun joke They ran outside and changed into their real letters and were introduced by name in order of sorority. Then, the PX's, now reaffiliated with their chapters led their new members home with a sprint to Greek Park, where each sorority was waiting on the lawn of the chapter house with fun signs in hand to welcome home the PX's and new members. After photos, gifts and a reception at the chapter house, everyone goes home to rest and change and then meet up again to go out to a fun place like Hard Rock Cafe, Disney Quest, House of Blues, CityWalk, etc. Tons of fun! The next day is the first day of school and all of the sororities wear their bid day shirts to classes.

PNMs receive their bids at the Greek Office in the Student Union, while each sorority waits outside with their standards, singing & chanting for all they're worth! The PNMs walk out the front of the SU, into their new group, and when all PNMs have arrived, go to their suites or house.

On my Bid Day, after Kiss & Carnation, there was an All Greek Mixer. It was a lot of fun, but kind of a downer for those sororities who didn't do well, or if they felt that you were going to pledge them & didn't. I remember several sisters of the other sorority I preffed hugging & crying on me, and I was embarrassed.

I think it's very important to be welcomed into the Greek System!

New members get their bids at about 11 pm or midnight on Pref Night from their RCs who deliver them to their rooms. they can either tell their RCs that they accept or decline their bid or wait until the next day (they have 24 hours to give their answer) and then they sleep on it and then the next afternoon is Bid Day!!! they all go to the Sunken Gardens (big open space in the middle of campus) where all of the sororities are waiting with signs and boom boxes, singing their lungs out. the new members wait at the top of the steps and then "run home" to their chapters, where they're basically tackled, and then the RCs and ISC members show their letters and run home too...then we go take our chapter, class and new member pictures and then go to the house where we pig out all afternoon on mile-long subs and chips and ice cream and the new members have their first class...and you know what? i am SUPER excited about this year's bid day because i have managed to miss EVERY bid day run home and revealing, even my own! i cannot wait!

Our bid day we were given our bids by our Recruitment Counselors and then everyone moves into a big room where you are divided into the sororities. The PXs are revealed and they teach the cheer to the new girls in ther sorority. Then comes the annual "Run up the Hill" where you bolt across campus to the waiting sisters! There is a lot of screaming and hugging and pictures. After that we went to the house, got all of our gifts, took lots more pictures. Then we had an hour to go back to our dorms, and change into the Party shirt we were given before we were picked up. Our shirt was cute, it had a farm scene on the back and it said Chi O Barnyard Bash, Party till the Cows Come Home. Then we drove for like an hour to the boonies of GA to one of the sister's house where a bunch of parents cooked us a huge BBQ and we had an AWESOME hayride over their huge farm. It was so much fun, because it was just sisters and you got a chance to know everyone. Bid Day was great!

I'd be interested to know if this still goes on at Penn State, but I always thought it was kind of cruel.

On bid day, the sororities sent out a group of 5-6 girls to each dorm area with a list of the new members who lived there. PNMs knew to be in their rooms between certain hours (7-8:30 or whatever).

The groups would go to a PNM's door, and sing outside. When the PNM opened the door, she was handed her bid, and would join the group and move to the next name on the list. After everyone was collected, they headed down to the sorority for pictures, and then usually out to a fraternity for a informal welcome party. Sounds nice, right?

What was cruel is that they made a point of never delivering roommates' bids at the same time, so if Lisa and Rindy were both rushing, XYZ would come by with Lisa's bid and keep going, even if Rindy was on their pick-up list as well. Rindy didn't know if that meant another group would be coming for her, or if XYZ would be back. If there were 3 girls on the same floor, same deal. You'd see ABC sorority coming into your dorm (your third choice) and your heart would sink. Or you'd see your first choice, and they'd come for a neighbor and keep going. Very terrifying!

I did the ISP thing (yeah, I know) and hadn't received a "no bid" call, so I knew who was coming for me, but I was still incredibly nervous.

On the other hand, door-to-door can be very sweet - one girl had to drop from rush because of a family emergency. She told her rush counselor that she was devastated, because she had her heart set on joining ASA. We heard about it, and since we were one short of quota, we were able to snap bid her. We showed up at her door a few days after bid day, singing as if it were bid day. She opened the door, stunned, saying we had gotten it all wrong, that she had missed her chance and it was too late. We told her we heard what had happened and were happy as pie to have her on board, and then she and her roommate (who had gotten a bid at another sorority and had supported her through everything that had gone on) BOTH started crying.
