Why do you love being a KD?

What are the little things, the small things, that make you smile to know that you are a KD?

*I smile everytime I see little girls out selling Girl Scout cookies because they are a part of me, and I'm a part of them.

*It makes me giggle every year at Christmas time when I send out my cards and realize that I cannot find my Christmas seals. It bugs the heck outta me! So, I right a note to all my sisters saying, "Sorry I forgot the seals!" Only a KD

Oh, there are about a million more, but I want to hear what everyone else has to say.

There are so many wonderful experiences I have had, and I've made so many close friendships, it's hard to think of a few reasons why I love being a KD. So here's an experience I had just this year that I will remember as my fondest day as a Kappa Delta.

It was April 10th. A big day in the Greek world at South Florida, it was Greek Awards Banquet night. Our chapter had worked extremely hard all year towards getting Sorority of the Year. We were sure we had a good chance of getting it. It also happened to be the night that we would play our rival sorority in IM softball, for the last game of the regular season. (We take our sports very seriously, especially softball!) So our chapter was torn. Some people went to the awards banquet, but even more came to the softball game. The stands were packed, fraternity guys came to watch, it was the game of the season. Sadly, we ended up losing, and I remember being the last at bat and seeing my little standing at the fence. As I walked to the plate I asked her if she knew if we had won anything. She was like "concentrate!" I didn't really care, even if I hit a homer, we were still going to lose. So after the game our coaches were giving us a pep talk about playoffs, because we were still ranked #2, and we hear our sisters cheering for us. They didn't care we lost, they were screaming "Hey, we want our softball girls" (similar to Hey, we want our Rho Chis, I'm sure you all are familiar with that.) They had lined up in 2 lines making a little walkway out of the dugout and they like cheered us out of the dugout. It made us feel like a million bucks. Then we were all waiting around for someone at the banquet to call us to let us know if we had won sorority of the year. We were contemplating running over to the student union to see if we could make the end of the awards ceremony when one of my sisters got a phone call. She simply had to say "We got it" and we all went crazy. My roomate and I (PC Fall 2000) started crying. We had worked for it so long, and had finally taken it away from the same rival sorority that had just beat us at softball.
So later that night, we had a SOTY (sorority of the year) party. It was even better than initiation night, we all had a blast! We celebrated all weekend, with socials on the next 2 nights, and chapter that Sunday was insane. We now have bright hot pink shirts that say "Kappa Delta - Sorority of the Year (front) Who says you can't always get what you want?" (back)

That is my favorite KD memory. My sisters truly exemplified the meaning of AOT on that day. I have never felt prouder to be a Kappa Delta than I was that night.

Everyone should share their stories! It makes me feel all warm and fuzzie about KD!

Love & AOT,
Shae

How do I count the ways?

To be honest I couldn't explain 100% why I love KD, there isn't enought paper or space in GC to get into it all.

I have had a blessed KD experience. From the begining I was surronded by great NPC women. We were a local that affiliated and brought KD back to ECU.
From the get go we were bias toward KD b/c she is such a well known group and in NC she was very popular. I had friends at Beta Chi(UNC) and they all agreed that KD was pretty much top dog there as well as many other NC schools.
We began our process, interviews of a few NPC groups. We got to meet with consultants and national reps, but when KD came they meant business. J.Johnson & M.Duncan stole the show. I couldn't have been more impressed with their confidence and personalities. We all sat there and thought, when I grow up I want to be these well rounded women that spoke so honestly about what we were and what we could become.
After we decided to go with KD, which took about 5 seconds to vote on I went to SEPC with PH. I met B.Warren and C.Stegall as they arrived and those two took me under their wing introducing me to all the KDs and telling them I was the newest KD and they needed to tell me everything they knew....it was so much fun buying KD bags and goodies for the chapter!
I actually got to go to NLC as a new member b/c I was president but not initiated....long story, colonization was to take place in the Fall! I met all our National Council, was called out at every dinner as the only new member. It sounds a little embarassing, but when you figure I went to San Fran alone, not even knowing a person or even being a real KD yet, these women took me in and I felt like I was born to bleed green. I was just so excited to be there I was early to EVERYTHING and proud of my 1st degree badge. All in all I was and am still a KD Dork at heart!
Colonization began with a CDC, Mary, the rock of our chapter who to this day I am Best Buds with. From then on we had National officers in and out and finally got initiated. Since I was a Senior I graduated out but my little sister became President, they just won chapter of the year and we are trying to a house!
I begame the HC president and an AA president.
A good KD friend of mine told me once that KD broke her down and built her up to become the best women she could have been. I think that is so true. I try each day to incorporate KD into my daily life and think I do an OK job. What kills me is to think all these peolpe saying that pledging is when you "earn" your letters. I disagree, I work every day to be more KD and feel that it is a constant earning process.
I love our organization b/c she gives us the tools to work with what we have as individuals inorder to make us better inorder to make KD better. I have had a great time in KD and couldn't have had a better expeirence! Truly KD is a life long part of my life!

As I was looking at KD websites, I realized that we are the only sorority that I have ever seen that do a "hand sign" of their letters like the BGLOs & MCGLOs. I think that's nifty

I love KD for so many different reasons. Kappa Delta is a place where I can dance around during rush, feeling completely at home. Kappa Delta is a place where you can still see "classy" girls. Kappa Delta is a place where I am constantly amazed, at the desire to do good in the world around us. I LOVE KAPPA DELTA

***everytime I see anything with girl scouts, I immediately think KD!!!***
