Gift for "Congrats on the job"
I searched unsuccessfully.
One of my really good guy friends just got an awesome job. He's going to be working in a cubicle. I wanted to get him something as a congratulations, but what would be good? I wanted it to be something he can put in his cube, and I need it to be on the inexpensive side. Thanks!

When I got laid off from my job a year ago, someone was going to take over my desk and do something different. Her old temp agency came by and dropped off one of those potted bambo plants with a "good luck" card... on my last day on the job.
One of the guys told me to put salt in the soil.
I didn't... but the plant might be a good idea since the release oxygen. Cube life can get kind of stuffy.

In the past I've given paper weights, picture frames, a tiny cactus plant, & a mini-wood mail sorter. They're all inexpensive & they'll look nice on his desk.

Gift certificate for a lunch-type restauant like Chili's or Fridays
A desk calendar
A manly picture frame that he can insert a nice photo into
A promise to take him out for happy hour drinks after his first week (he'll need it!)

Check out this stuff if you want to go down that route. I will tell you this though. I think it's a mistake to be all fancy at the junior level. I feel that a lot of things like that can rub someone the wrong way. I've had people give me comments that I wasn't exactly sure how to interpret. The card holder is a nice idea but is he even in a profession where people give out cards? Most people aren't.
The plant is a good idea as long as it doesn't attract flies. I had a bamboo and it was awesome but a chinese woman at my work had a bamboo that was seriously attracting fruit flies. We were high up in a skyscraper so I have no idea where they came from or if they came with the plant. We made fun of her. Get a plant that doesn't attract insects and you're golden. I used to sit there wanting to break our cold fluorescent lights and those plants made me so much happier. It's honestly really uplifting. I have my own office now and want a plant too but I'm not sure where to put it since my whole office is full of documents and files.

He's pretty much obsessed with it! He kept playing it all the way to the bar, and all the way home. I did a good job!
