Talking Non-NPC/IFC challenge!!

I love the NPC sorority challenge thread, and promise to reply to it as soon as I can.

This sparked an idea...

How about saying something nice about NON NPC/IFC GLOs, including (but not limited to):

Sigma Alpha Iota
Phi Mu Alpha
Tau Beta Sigma
Kappa Kappa Psi
Delta Omicron
Sigma Alpha
Ceres

etc etc!! These are the names I'm most familiar with. Please add more to your list if you think of some. But use the ones above as a bare minimum, and say something nice/something you like about each one. If you don't know about them, go to their website! Besides, NPC/IFC Greeks typically don't know too much about us, and I thought it'd be a fun thread for people to learn more about different kinds of Greeks.

I'll start!!!

Sigma Alpha Iota--well, for some reason, I'm a bit partial to SAI. I love everything about us, from our lovely badge to our crimson and white colors to our red rose symbol. I love the SAI Chorale we sing at everything SAI-related. I just love my SAI!!!

Phi Mu Alpha--LOVE THOSE BOYS!! They just reinstated their chapter this year on my campus, and they really worked hard to do so. They are also just the sweetest, most polite, wonderful bunch of gentlemen. I just admire everything about them!

Tau Beta Sigma--they have a S-T-R-O-N-G chapter on my campus. They are close-knit, super spirited, hard working, dedicated, and fun people. They're SO diverse, too...not only are they coed but their membership on my campus includes different races, straight people and gay people, just everything. They are just great!

Kappa Kappa Psi--we don't have them on my campus, however, one of my SAI sisters was KKY president before she transfered here, and she has so much dedication and leadership experience that KKY must be pretty darn great!

Sigma Alpha-- I like the whole "sisters in agriculture" thing, and the baby bull mascot, that's so cute!

Ceres--don't know anything about them, and can't seem to find the website. Would like to learn more, though!

Delta Omicron--I love pink. I also think their badge is beautiful!

Can't wait to see others' responses!!! Happy posting!!!!!

Ooh...more fun...

Sigma Alpha Iota: I met an SAI at a church choir practice this spring. She had a gorgeous voice, and all the choir members appreciated her filling in when we were REALLY short on voices one Sunday.

Phi Mu Alpha: I met one of these fine gentlemen in the same way that I met the SAI sister above. We really appreciated the additional bass.

Tau Beta Sigma: I learned about this organization through AngelPhiSig. She has worked hard for her chapter, so it must be a worthwhile group.

Kappa Kappa Psi: I applaud any organization that promotes the arts!

Delta Omicron: I know one DO sister...Ginger from GC, and she has certainly earned my respect. Hi, Ginger!

Sigma Alpha: I like that their mascot is a baby bull. That's so cute! I wonder...why a BABY bull?

Ceres: I had trouble finding information about Ceres, but the name certainly sounds dignified.

Adding....

Alpha Phi Omega: the largest college service organization (however, CircleK once claimed this "title," so I'm not sure). Anyway, I have met so many wonderful people through APhiO. I had the pleasure of watching my chapter go from being a "sign up to enhance your resume" chapter to a thriving fraternity. We promote friendship, leadership, and service. What more can you ask for?

Beta Sigma Phi: Beta was established as a opportunity for women to grow socially and culturally during the difficult years of the Depression. Many of these women had to give up college in order to earn money for their families, thus missing the Greek experience. Our founder wanted to give these women a chance to enjoy sisterhood while learning about themselves and the world around them. Now, Beta has apx. 250,000 members.

Omega Phi Alpha: I just recently learned about this sorority, and I was impressed by the connection between these sisters and the APhiO brothers.

There you go. I'll be anxious to see what other orgs get added.

Erica

SAI..

I was on scholarship for violin playing in the orchestra so I knew lots of SAI's. They had a very tight sisterhood (or do ya'll call it brotherhood since SAI is a "brotherhood" of women? [a little confusing]). A friend of mine married an SAI and I had no trouble rounding up a few of her sisters to join me a string quartet we put together for the wedding.

Sure they're included! I just listed mostly music ones because they are the ones that I am most familiar with. But yes, do include these orgs too!

On that note, I think Theta Nu Xi is just awesome! I've learned about them first through GreekChat and then through their AWESOME website. Everything about them is just great, and all the pics I've seen of ONE members show how diverse and cool they must be! Kudos to you lovely ladies!

Both Gamma Sigma Sigma and Omega Phi Alpha were formed at a time when Alpha Phi Omega was limited to Males. GSS was founded in 1952 by a group of 8 women's service groups that had had help finding each other by APO chapters at the APO National Convention. Omega Phi Alpha was founded in 1953 with the direct help from an Alpha Phi Omega chapter on their campus. More information can be found at www.gammasigmasigma.org and www.omegaphialpha.org

On a National level, Alpha Phi Omega does not have any official affiliation with either group.

Right now Alpha Phi Omega has about 320 active chapters, GSS has about 45-50 and Omega Phi Alpha about 15-20...
