Forgive this dinosaur, but what is the Bid Day T-shirt etiquette? Do just the new Alphas get them, or does the whole chapter? I've often wondered.

I believe the new alphas get a shirt. Usually they say "Bid Day" and whatever the year is.

So far my favorite bid day shirt comes from a different sorority, but it totally stuck into my head.

Alpha Phi last year based their bid day shirts of the "lucky" slogan. I don't recall what the actives shirts said, but they were black. Their new members got red shirts that said "lucky you, lucky me, lucky to be an Alpha Phi". Ironically this was their Fall rush 2001 shirt, which unfortunately Bid day was on September 11th. Bad timing, but really cute shirt.

Just by reading that y'all might understand why it stuck in my head

In my chapter, everyone gets a shirt. We flip-flop colors though so we can id our alphas and alum right away-- we don't want them to get lost in the shuffle and not be paired with a delta sister--- so the shirts are usually identical--- but the principal color is different-- ie: black for alphas, gray for deltas, pink for alphas, blue for deltas, etc...
