Omega Honors Black Female P.O.W.

The Brothers of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Tau Chapter, El Paso,
Tx. had the honor of meeting Ms Shoshona Johnson last week. She is one of the
most humble individuals you would ever want to meet. During our visit, she
constantly thanked everyone for their Prayers. Furthermore, she reminded
everyone to continue their prayers for others.

The Brothers established a "Perserverance Award" in her honor. Ms. Shoshona
is the First African-American Female prisoner of war, POW to my knowledge. We need
to recognize her. The media is setting the stage to make Jessica Lynch, the
"HERO". Where is the fairness?

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity presents Ex- POW the Perseverance Award

By: Samuel Morgan

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc

On May 8, 2003, the men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Tau Chapter
awarded the first annual Perseverance Award to former prisoner of war,
Shoshana Johnson. The award was presented to Ms. Johnson by Phillip Roland, the
current Basileus (President) of the local Sigma Tau Chapter and Don Davis, the
9th
District Representative (Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas) of the
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. This award was to acknowledge Ms. Johnson's
perseverance in maintaining her will and dignity while being held as a prisoner
of
war during Operation Iraqi Freedom in Southwest Asia. Omega Psi Phi
Fraternity, Inc. was established under the four cardinal Principles of manhood,
scholarship, perseverance and uplift. Whenever a member of the local community
displays one of these Principles, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. honors them
with an
award to recognize their exemplary demonstration of these cardinal
Principles. Award recipient, Shoshana Johnson, will also be honored in November
2003 at
the Sigma Tau Chapter's annual Founder's Day Banquet. It is with great
respect and admiration that Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. honors this hero of
Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Kudos to the Brothers! I'm guessing the author meant first FEMALE African American POW though, right? I know there were plenty of AA POW from previous wars.

Thanks, bruhs, for recognizing the sister. As soon as the white girl was recognized, they (the media) forgot all about Shoshana.

Definitely appropriate! Kudos to the men of Omega!

I could never understand how Jessica Lynch ended up the "hero" when she was rescued and Shoshanna and the others were left to endure additional torture. I guess that's how the media is.

I am very pleased that the Omega Chapter did this. The media has basically completed ignored her. She deserved this award.

Since the Bruhs were one of the 1st to recognize Shoshana Johnson

This is what they wrote on Shoshana Johnson, this makes you think....

I read this in Urbanstyle Weekly. Very interesting particularly since it seems to have been written by a white person.

"We salute all of our American soldiers and former POWs. And we especially honor Shoshana Johnson, 30, that black female who was a former prisoner of war in Iraq.

We salute you even though the mangle minds of the misguided media tried to play you.

They desperately tried to surgically remove your gunshot wounds from your ankles and place the gunshot wounds on the small, fragile, pale body of that helpless little white girl, Pfc. Jessica Lynch.

As you know, Lynch is that teeny, weeny little white girl that was taken hostage by the Iraqis and placed in a hospital.

She's the same white thing that was saved when an entire infantry was dispatched to ambush the hospital to save one life.

Oh, the white media soooo badly needed for that little blond girl to be shot -- and they originally said she was shot twice, stabbed and suffered two broken legs (an mammoth amount of injuries for a 100 pound girl to survive), they finally had to recant it and say she only suffered broken legs.

You, Shoshana, on the other hand didn't get that same royal treatment.

You just don't fit the profile of an American hero, kid.

Nothing personal. Just that, well, you are of the Negroid classification, you don't sport beauty queen attributes (read: European features), and you are an Army cook.

Thank God you weren't a POW by yourself, Shoshana.

They would have let you and your two shot up ankles rot in the Iraqi desert.

Kind of sick and pathetic, isn't it?

You're over there fighting for our freedom, and the white media decides what kind of her's welcome you get because of the way you look, because of the tint on your melanin.

But, it's cool, though.

They'll be forced to take care of you for the rest of your life, being an injured war veteran and all. Just don't get stopped by the police, Shoshana. Don't go wandering into the wrong parts of the Deep South.

They don't care much for your kind, especially you uppity soldier types.

They have ropes in your neck size. Stay away for the LAPD, and especially the NYPD; they have broomsticks with your name on it.

They forget pretty quickly that you're a soldier or even human.

This is after all, America.

Like Malcolm once quipped: what do they call a black man with a doctorate degree?

A ni**er!

So what do they call a black person who fights for American freedom and democracy?

Still a ni**er.

They don't even broadcast your arrival live. You're broadcast on the detestable Geraldo Rivera show, that sleazy, slimy tabloid slut of a journalist.

Meanwhile, Jessica Lynch, who emanated from the "prestigious" Appalachian mountains of West Virginia,
(yeah, Shoshana, that great state made up of people who are all related to each other and who are known for barefoot strolls in the winter), gets royal treatment on the Today Show.

So you can be a hero if you're white and good-looking. So, you'll excuse me while I go regurgitate my breakfast.
