Squeamish

I usually have a really good intuition that kicks in when stuff like this comes around. Last year, I had a really bad feeling about rush. We had several things happen during rush and ended up having to file 3 rush infractions against one sorority. Ever since then, I hate fall rush. I have tried to explain my feelings to the people who are involved around me and they think I'm preposterous.
I hate formal rush. I don't want to do it. Last year, I told them that when I get feelings like complete dread. . .I try to steer clear from the situation. And it's weird because informal rush, I'm totally different.

No one understands me. What should I do?

White Chocolate, if you don't feel comfortable rushing on the floor you can request to assist with behind-the-scenes work. Or if you plan ahead, you can be a member of Panhellenic or Recruitment Exec, or a Recruitment Counselor, so you are removed from being directly involved in your chapter's recruitment, and still have a positive affect on your campus. Your feelings or uneasiness can show during parties and this can have an affect on the PNMs and the chapter members around you.

By no means am I saying anything is wrong with you! It is normal to have nerves, or to have intuition. Is there a reason you feel this way about recruitment? Could your chapter do a better job educating members about its recruitment process? Or is Panhellenic not doing the best job of educating the sororities? (This is something you can counteract by talking to your exec board at chapter and bringing up for discussion with the Greek Advisor or in Panhellenic if you cite specific instances. Or if you serve on Panhellenic you stand a chance to make fair and impartial decisions for the betterment of the Greek System at your school).

For your chapter---Do you feel the chapter is unprepared? Is conversation well-practiced? What sort of sisterhood activities and recruitment work do you have planned for pre-recruitment week that will keep everyone feeling prepared, friendly and excited, and most of all motivated and upbeat? Have you tried sounding this off to a close friend in the chapter who might have some feedback or thoughts for you? Maybe it is a good idea for you to get involved with your own chapter's recruitment as a party chair, or committee member, so you can offer feedback throughout recruitment planning.

If you are having serious doubts, please talk to your recruitment chair or chapter adviser ASAP, and they can help ease your mind, answer your questions or help place you somewhere in recruitment where you will feel the most comfortable.
