silly/exciting news for Nicolle
So...this might be kind of silly and irrelevant to most of you guys cuz it's a personal story...and you all don't know me very well yet but I really wanted to share.
So my best friend's (non-greek) father remarried this woman who's oldest son happened to be a friend of mine from my freshman year of high school. It was a really weird coincidence, and I didn't find out until I went to their new house and saw his picture (and discovered their last name...put 2 and 2 together). So anyway that was the first really weird thing to happen with this family.
Then, this past weekend my best friend and I road tripped up to Oregon where her father and stepmom own a Bed & Breakfast, and lo and behold I was talking to her stepmom about how I am going to be living with my sorority, when she spots my A Phi lavalier and says - "Is that Alpha Phi? Oh my gosh I was an Alpha Phi at Oregon State!!" I totally freaked out!!!!! It's like this woman was meant to be in my life. I said to my best friend, "You know, your stepmom and I are sisters" and she totally rolled her eyes and laughed. But the best part was, one of the rooms in their Bed & Breakfast (usually B&B's have themes, like flowers or something else) was themed Forget-Me-Not! It was too bad there was a wedding and all the rooms were full when we visited, otherwise I would have begged to stay in that room!
Isn't it just so weird and wonderful when you discover someone in your life is more than a friend/acquaintence - that they are actually your sister!

What a neat story! I haven't had any Alpha Phi run-ins yet, but I can't wait until I do!

AlphaPhiBubbles, you are right--it is the coolest when you have that realization that a woman you know is also a sister! I had the same thing happen to me about six or seven years ago. I was introduced to a woman who had been a friend of my fiance's family for years. He didn't know she is an Alpha Phi, and neither did I at the time, but we were outside at her house and I saw she had a really sad looking planter full of ivy that wasn't doing so well. So I made an offhand remark about how if she wanted to bring that ivy back to life I'd show her how because we had it all over the place in college. Her jaw dropped and she screamed "Oh my god, you're an ALPHA PHI, aren't you??!!!" She grabbed me by the arm, drug me inside and sure enough buried in with about a million pictures on her fridge is and oldie but goodie Alpha Phi magnet that I had never noticed before! Ever since then she calls me her sister all the time--and there's a good age gap between us which makes it all the more fun!

That is really awesome! Realizing that someone you are friends with is an Alpha Phi is super awesome! I love running into Phi's. It's fun.

Wow 30+ years! That's neat. A while back I met a woman who works in the International Office in the airport on my way to Chicago. She spotted my letters from across the gate and came over to say hi! She had this really gorgeous old fashioned Alpha Phi pin on, too. I was jealous.
Whenever I see other Alpha Phi cars, I never know how to signal to them I'm an A Phi if I'm not in my car or wearing letters....I know that some sororities have hand signals but do we? It's not like I could start yelling out aoe to her or anything.

LOL!!! It would be really funny trying to get someone's attention by screaming out to them . I don't know of any signals, but i have heard of a "honk" but I don't quite know what it is or how it's done. Something cool that I just remembered is that once I went ot LA for the weekend, and on my flight back one of the advisors of my chapter was on the same flight to tha Bay that I was. I thought that was pretty cool.
