i just need to vent a little....

ok....as you all know....I'm VP Membership for my chapter. Recruitment starts on the 9th. I have basically everything set up but I'm just to the point of frustration right now. Getting members to help me is sometimes like pulling teeth so it causes me and a few others to be doing everything all the time. They ignore the rules and the point of having Rho Gams which could give us a recruitment infraction. This happened at the football game the other night and right in front of me, members of the greek system, and many freshman who might be going through recruitment. None of them had letters on so they thought they could sit together, but no matter how many times I told them no it doesn't matter, they didn't want to listen. It would be easy to forgive if the members had never been through a formal recruitment, but they are all second years and they know better! But now the issue that I'm dealing with is the fact that they are all pissed at me because I was doing my job and enforcing the rules....its quite annoying how childish this has turned out to be. All I asked was that our Rho Gam not be with the active members....i'm not trying to ruin friendships here, I'm just trying to prevent us from getting a rush infraction that can result in some sort of penalty (monetary, etc) and we will not be able to get our recruitment trophies back next year. I just don't think they understand!!!

I'm sorry ladies.....I need to vent and this was the place where I felt I could vent the best. I just think that there is a point to where someone can only take so much. I'm already burnt out because I worked 62 hours a week this summer plus planning for recruitment and now I have to deal with finding time for school as well as implement recruitment. All I need is a little cooperation and for some reason I can't get that. I've had to leave the house twice this week just to get away and I shouldn't have to do that....

If anyone has any advice for me....let me know....thanks for giving me a chance to just talk for a bit.....
ITB!

Maybe it is time to sit down and talk to everyone.

Our VP Membership made out committees, so you were designated to help on at least one night. There was a first day committee, philanthropy day, skit day, pref night, and bid day committee.

She'd put 1 or 2 people in charge of each committee(who she knew she could trust - like for eaxmpled VP New Member Ed was in charge of Bid Day). Then she'd put a few people under them. That way, when say skit night rolls around, you can be focused on your duties - and the committee leaders can worry about getting everything set up and getting their group to help.

I would just talk to everyone if you have any meetings and tell them this is very stressful for you. You love your position and are excited about recruitment, but it isn't a one man show. Just like the chapter chooses who is their new sister, the chapter needs to put forth the effort in getting them there.

As far as the PX thing goes, I would talk to them all personally and tell them you are sorry if any hostility has come up. Just say you are looking out for the PX's and the new members - and you want DG to win recruitment awards. New members are smart enough to figure out if Rho Chis are sitting with a certain group of letters, one can guess what sorority she is in.
