Venus Beats Davenport...AGAIN!
I was reading in the paper today that Venus beat Davenport in a tournament over the weekend.
But, what "surprised" me was that (notice how I have inserted quotes)...
Even after Venus beat Davenport at Wimbledon, she still DOES NOT rank #1! She did not rank #1 for this tourney, nor was she ranked #1 in the world. I wonder, when will Venus reign as the #1 Tennis player PERIOD?
Guess who was top ranked? You got it, Davenport!

Go figure! Now I see why you put the word surprised in quotes.

I read an article about that yesterday, too. The article also mentioned how the crowd was behind Davenport cheering her on. What good did it do? Congrats to Venus!

Sorry, Diarra. I just thought that tidbit was kind of interesting because when I read articles about Venus or SeRena that is never mentioned, except at Wimbledon. I don't know why it was so important to include that. However, I never did understand the rankings system. I've also seen this happen to non-black players.

I am sorry ladies, I don' t think that I phrased my message properly. I meant that the crowd, mostly white mind you, supporting Davenport did not phase me as much as this ranking business. I am getting used to see Venus and Serena being hated on for their game, eventhough they keep on winning... Anywho, I 'll try to figure out why their ranking has not changed. Talk to you later and have a blessed day.

There is definitely no excuse for the crowd, but I am a huge tennis fan and have been for 6 years. Although Venus won Wimbledon, a grand slam tournament, she may not have won very many smaller tournaments. This may take account into her ranking. Also, she didn't even play for about the first 5 months of the season due to an injury. Best of luck to her and Serena!
