Eminem
Hey Sorors and friends I have a question what do yall think of Eminem and his music? I am not afraid to say that I hate his music why is he like the only wanna be rapper still hating on women, did yall know his wife tried to commit sucide (I don't know where I just heard this - maybe it was on this board - if so please forgive me)? Anyway, I think he needs help - if any guys are viewing please speak up about him and his music, I just really dislike it, but my man and my nephew have the CD and they play it all the time, but my man is still a sweetheart I am glad he can set the two apart but can most men do that?

Soror, I'm with you. I'm not a big fan of rap music anymore. Even the female rappers disgust me these days.

I am not in to rap. I have heard of him but only saw him once (I think on the BET awards) with DrDre, Snoop, LL and a few others rapping a medley of hits. I didn't pay too much attention to him...because I didn't really know who he was. I am only 30 but I fail to see the point to a lot of rap songs...I do listen if it has a nice beat or I like the rappers voice.

I've never heard of Eminem, but I'm not a big rap fan either. I used to be back when raps were fun (i.e. Curtis Blow, and the Kool Moe Dee & LL Cool J Wars). I can't stand the way some of the female rappers portray themselves, nor can I stand the genocide and mysogynism portrayed in many of the male rappers lyrics.

You ladies haven't heard of slim shady (yeah that's Eminem). I am not a big fan of his either, and as a matter of fact I think his music should be underground, I can't believe someone would produce such a record. He talks about killing his wife, it is horrendous. Now I do listen to DMX, why - well because I am a Hypocrite, just joking, but really I don't know I just like some of his work, I just watched Belly, featuring DMX and Nas, I thought it was okay, but I digress - Eminem/Slim Shady is sickening ...I may start a campaign against him and the first one to sign up should be his wife.....okay maybe we should move on this topic is not fun.

I agree that some of the music does have a nice beat, but when I listen to the lyrics I become I disengaged. It's a shame that music that reaches so many, especially so many youth, can't have a more positive message.

i saw an interview/documentary on him on, i think it was, VH-1. he really turned me off, his attitude was so negative i could see where his lyrics stem from. he evidently had a tough childhood so that is his excuse for having such a negative 'tude!
his music has nice catchy beats but his negative attitude is definitely what turned me off!

Just to play devil's advocate, but these people are just trying to make the BENJAMINS, BABY! We have to separate the two, the rapper from the person. These people are tapping into a market and doing whatever they have to to make the money.
Now, speaking as AKA2D'91, I don't buy the stuff anymore. The music does have good beats and 'hooks, but that's about it. Yeah, some of that stuff that EM says is hilarious if you can dissect what he says and can understand it, but normally they are going too fast and you can't. But as an older person, and watching these artists long after they are popular,(interviews) they basically will tell you that that act on stage is just that, AN ACT! So we have to separate the two. I am sure that for the average teenager, they cannot do that. They figure what you see and hear is what you get, but in fact, that is not always the case.

I happen to love Eminem's music. The stuff that he says on his music is a little bit hardcore. However, I believe that he loves to shock people. And also, he has a very creative imagination. He uses that imagination to make his music. It's like making a movie. Have the stuff that people make into movies, you can question it's moral value. Most of the time people don't. It's just that from the beginning rap has had it's critics. My opinion is that if you don't like something just turn it off. It's evident that people do cause of all the albums he's sold. And for all those concerned parents, I am soon to be a father also. No I don't think that his music is appropriate for little kids. I wouldn't let my kid listen to his music until he was age appropriate. Parents need to police what their kids are listening to. I went to see "Scary Movie" and yes it was very sexually crude. I understand parents who took their kids to see it got up and left. My thing is, kids shouldn't have been there anyway. I thought that some rated R meant that some of the materials in the movie might not be suitable for kids under 17? That means you run the risk if you bring your kids. Parents wake up! Stop letting tv and radio babysit your kids. It would be fine if the only thing out there was peace and love, but it's not. And even then I don't think that a tv or radio should take the place of the love and nurturing only a parent can provide. And that's my 11 cents.

i like the song he did with dre and the real slim shady stand up song, other then that i havn't cared for his other songs. at least he's real, so you know what you're getting
he is very popular. i agree rap used to be more fun, now i'm sick of snoop doggy dog whateva his name is and his gansta rap, i'm so disgusted with some of these female rappers, can you say NASTY. many of these folks never had anything including class and it shows all too well. but some are not as they portray themselves to be and are just using this image to sell records/make money which is sad that they won't be true to self.
but i do like a phat beat

I can understand separating the performer from the person, but I would never sell my body or soul for money because it's not worth it. Personally, I don't have respect for those that do, especially the females. I guess if I were a performer, I would never make it in the business.
Nupe4Life, you are absolutely correct that parents need to do a better job of parenting their children. I, too, have seen children in attendance at certain movies that were inappropriate for their age. Children are growing up way too fast these days.

Lady AKA:
yes you heard correct his wife tried to slice her wrists...what a shame, they have a house about 1/2 hr. from where i live (metro detroit) and it was on the news last night here....
What upset many people here is that while they were here in concert this week they (the "up in smoke tour") had a very controversial video that was being shown before the concert. the city of detroit successfully stopped it from being viewed, but the second night the concert was in another city here and they were unsuccessful.....
Hopefully his wife (and eminem) will get the help she needs to deal with her/their situation

Soror, I would not sell my body nor my soul for money either. That's why I chose, like I am sure many of us chose the professions we have. We may not make as much money as the performs do or ever will, but at least we can wake up each morning being able to respect ourselves and having a PEACE OF MIND!

Soror LadyAKA,
I'm with you on DMX. I (and only I) can listen to his first CD over and over again. If you can get past the language, you might find his words interesting. Now, I say only I listen to it, because it is obviously not appropriate for my daughters' young ears.
I don't have any opinions on Slim Shady either way.
For Rap in general, it is tired. If I hear Cameo's Candy rapped over one more time, or any other song I grew up with, I'm going to scream.
