Have You Ever Wanted to Ask?
So there is a guy working in the company that i'm interning for that I think is a Kappa Sig. He's alot older, and i've picked up on subtle hints:
1) I put my fraternity leadership on my resume, and since he's been extra friendly
2) We had a long conversation about our hometown (we're from the same place), he also mentioned what college he went to (which has a strong KS chapter)
3) Last week he wore a ralph lauren polo shirt (forest green with red emblem) in our colors. Alot of our Brothers have that shirt...
4) He invited me to Happy Hour, and when I declined he said "Come on, you're a Kappa Sig"
So, I have just cause to think he's a Brother, alum, or someone that hung out with Kappa Sigs in college, but I can't bring myself to ask.
Have any of you had similar experiences, thinking someone was in XYZ or in your own fraternity/sorority.

Just ask him about the stuff he did in college, IM, where he lived etc. it'll come out.

Most fraternities/sororities have call signs or challenges, gestures, grips, whistles or handshakes. Drop some of that on him and see if he bites....

Just ask him, although it seems to me that he may have said something already if he is a Kappa Sig. Perhaps he belongs to another fraternity, but had Kappa Sig friends or something. In any event, it doesn't sound like he'd be at all offended or put off if you just asked.

I can relate to now wanting to come right out and ask. I have graduated a hundred years ago and when I see a co worker or even a younger woman with a sorority shirt, I want to so badly call out and say, "I see you're a XYX, I was a ABC!" but I don't.
Don't really know why exactly, I just don't.
And, it being a place of work, I wouldn't bring it up without it being brought up by your boss. Can't really explain myself. I think it's hard sometimes to NOT come across as a person who is still in fraternity/sorority mode even though you're away/out of school.
For as much as I LOVED my sorority experience, I don't go out of my way to hide it, I just don't go out of my way to talk about it either.

That's really too bad, because I go way out of my way to talk with another Greek if I see their letters on their hat, sweatshirt, shorts...etc. And usually the conversations go very well and their glad I brought it up.
When a new person is hired at my work and I find out what college they graduated from, I ALWAYS ask if they "did the Greek thing".
Try it, you'd be surprised!

I don't usually tell people I'm in a sorority at first because people start to make assumptions about me, but I don't have a hard time asking if someone is greek if they have signs like the orginal poster mentioned. It's sad that so many people try to cover up their Greek affiliations.

yeah, well when you've dealt with constant adversity from anti-greek sentiments, you can understand why.

Here's my Greek boss story...
My boss graduated from the same college that I currently attend. Since nearly everyone is Greek, she asked my if I was in a sorority... I told her yes, but I didn't say which one. Anyway, for the next few days she kept getting really close to me to try to read the letters on my lavalier (I had already figured out what house she was from because she kept asking me if I knew people and they were all in the same house). I guess she finally figured it out or just gave up... I never brought it up because she recently graduated and there is some tension between our houses. Plus, the job was part of a graded class I was taking and I didn't want a sorority rivalry to get me a bad grade!

Do it! I know whenever I'm wearing letters at the mall or somebody notices my lavalier, I get excited when they comment. My mom wore her Gamma Phi Beta Mom polo shirt while on a business trip and it turned out two of the people at the office she was visiting were Greek - a SigEp and a Pi Phi. She thought it was really cool.

ask him. I think he would've said something already, but maybe he's just holding out. If he's supposed to be your brother you should be able to ask him with no problem. If he's not, no biggie. Just ask "are your Greek?" or whatever secret signal you may have to detect other members.

I agree -- I never hide it and my conversations are always peppered with refs to my activities which frequently involve the Alum Panhel group here or my alum chapter of Gamma Phi or a nearby collegiate chapter of Gamma Phi...in fact, I always get a kick out of a person's reaction when he or she finds out I was in a sorority -- there's not a helluva lot of retired LtCols who were in sororities after all!

I. too, would ask. If you've already put it on your resume, it's not like he doesn't know.
One clever woman I was interviewing put "Ronald McDonald House volunteer" on her application, since our application asks that you make no reference to any fraternal organization. I commented that my sorority's national philanthropy is RMH, and she smiled & said, 'Mine, too!" I had to admire her resourcefulness!

Ask, "The Dumbest Question Is The One You Do Not Ask"!
When a young guy comes in my store with a school shirt on I ask if they are in a Fraternity! If they say No, I ask why!
Depending on the response is how I fraze my question!
Have you talked to LXA. There are a lot of Good Houses on your campus! You dont know what yuou miss by not experienceing the Greek experience!
Hell, I was bashful when I was 3 years old! Been along time since then!!!!
If you are not proud enuff to ask, then why did you join! Be Proud like I am!!! I think LXA is the Best, but I have met Guys from a lot of Fraternitys and they are great too!
