No offence, but can we please take that link off? And someone delete the message...although I know the book is open, I'd rather not many people be able to read through it. Thanks a bunch

in ZAX,

Matt

OH yeah...delete my message too

Matt, this is on the LXA Web Site for anyone to read.

So if it is that open, I dont know if your concerns should be as strong as it seems.

I am sure all of us on LXA GC would be concerned if it were not so open and available.

It is great to see your concern and caring.

By the way, welcome to GC!

I will leave this up for a while and see what some of the other Brothers have to say.

I'm sorry...I thought I had clicked reply instead of new thread...I do not really wish that the world have the oppurtunity to look through Ritual What and Why...I would much rather any brother go to their Phi for it, and any other person have to go through the process of asking nationals...not just be able to find it on this website which anyone who is curious about out ritual to look through its histroy. But thats just my opinion

I found it in a Google Search - it's on the web. It's an open document and always has been.

Why tell people not to think of pink elephants?

Matt,
no, not XXXL-EM, but rather SGill4613...

i read the first post and really want to point out a few things...
as phi of my chapter (going on 3rd year) at florida southern, i have taken an active role of acquiring more and more information on our Ritual, and the secret rituals of other fraternities, sororities, and post-collegiate orders. i've gotten a hold of a lot of interesting reading over the years, and not for the purpose of exposing it, or attempting to take down other organizations. instead, i keep the documents to myself and analyze & study them. what i have found certainly follows suit with what the Lambda Chi Alpha open publication "Ritual - What and Why" tells. There are many themes throughout most GLO's and other fraternal orders that tend to reappear in differing dramatizations of their beliefs. I think that if an independent, or even a neutral-minded greek, were to study these themes, and not particularly one ritual or another, he/she would gain a great understanding of what the deep, bonding experience has to do with "frat boys" and "hot sorority chicks." i think they would be able to finally understand more of what it means to be in one of those organizations, rather than continue to believe what they have heard about greek life up until college. of course, they would not be able to fully understand that bond unless they had been through the oaths and lessons, but "Ritual - What and Why", i believe, attempts to explain that experience with outsiders of not just LXA, but all secret societies. in addition, i believe it to be beneficial (as i'm sure you agree) to those within the Bond of Lambda Chi Alpha, for purposes of study and interest. keeping in touch with our fraternity's roots can only enrich our brotherhood, as well as spark a desire for more education of our foundations. But, to get back to the point, i consider this publication to be a lucrative part of anyone's library, be they Lambda Chi or not, because it shows "how and why" members of the exhibited organizations portray themselves as initiates, as described in this excerpt of the discussed book:

*- The initiate today relates to an initiate of other generations because both have reacted to an identical personal activity. He feels vaguely akin to the glory of the past. Yet to him it is fresh as the sunrise. It is the ritual that makes men fraternity brothers even though they have never met. It binds each initiate, however gently, by a private but meaningful tie to all other members of the brotherhood. -*

the entire section discussing ritualism is looked at from a outsider's point of view, and is harmless to shedding any light on our secrecies, other than that glimpse which is appropriately understood by an interested scholar. so, i feel that this publication should continue to make its way into the hands of other ritualists and members of organizations throughout universities, colleges, studies, dens, and of course...GreekChat.com

your in ZAX,
grits
