Neutrogena Makeup
Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum and I would just like to say how much I've enjoyed the discussions here thus far.
My question is, has anyone tried the Neutrogena line of makeup? I've heard it's healthy for your skin, but I wanted to hear someone's personal account before I went out and bought anything. Also, is someone able to tell me how you are supposed to determine what color concealer you need to use for dark undereye circles and the best way to apply it? Last question, does anyone know of any products with minimum coverage for uneven skin tone?
Thanks Ladies!

Hello Cookee,
No, I have never considered trying Neutrogena and nor have I heard of its benefits toward a healthy complexion. Being a dark-skinned sister, Fashion Fair works best for me. Every other line tends to want to make us ligther with a red skin tone. Now I have tried the soap/body wash and it was okay.

Hey Cookee,
I have tried neutrogena's foundation and lipsticks... the foundation is now doing nothing but sitting on my drawer because it was too red for my skin tone... their color selection is very limited but if you do find a good shade, the consistency is nice to the skin, the lipsticks are great and creamy... I do recommend those....

When Neutrogena's cosmetics line first came out, I noticed that the television and magazine ads always featured a white actress or model. That was my clue that it probably wasn't formulated for us. So, I tried the testers in the store on my wrist (inside and out), and it was awful.
The same held true for Oil of Olay, although the nail lacquer comes in several good shades. I did buy a couple of those.
Fashion Fair does work well. I'm into Clinique right now (facial cleansers and cosmetics) and loving it.

I have been using Estee Lauder Liquid foundation for a little over a year now. They have to lines...Double Wear and Double Matte. I use the double wear. I have oily skin (T-zone) but this make-up tends to control that. It costs around $28 a bottle and in a year I have purchased 3 bottles. Just purchased the 3rd last week. So it is worth the price and lasts for a while. I wear makeup atleast 5 days a week. If you go to the Estee Lauder counter in Dillards or whereever...they should be able to help you find the color for your skin.

Well, recently I got hooked on M.A.C since I can buy it cheap at work. My white roommate loves her Neutrogena but I had a hard time finding a matching shade and that's rare for my complexion.
I have the same problem you do, and I use M.A.C's "Tinted Moisturizer" which really looks natural for something that evens you out so well. In fact, I had to wipe my face so my co-workers would believe I was wearing make-up. It costs $24 but a little goes a long way.
About the concealer: I got my first tube from the Fashion Fair counter. The beauty consultants usually know what they are doing so it's best to get ask them to help you the first time, especially when you are woman of color. After you find the right shade put a few small dots around the eye and blend in with your finger or a sponge. Then put your foundation on normally.

Even though I have never used neutrogena I haven't heard any great things about it from any sisters. I can tell you one product that looks good on any person of any shade and that is MAC. It is not expensive like everyone thinks it is. It is the same price as Fashion Fare. I tried to use Fashion Fare and it made me look red and it rubbed off onto my clothes. I am dark-skinned and red make up does me no justice. You are suppose to used a lighter shade of either lighter liquid foundation or a concealer stick to cover the rings under your eyes. I hope this helps. If I had a choice to choose my choice of make-up, I would choose MAC over again. Whitney Houston, TLC, Tony Braxton and Little Kim are only a few of the stars that wear this product. You can find it in large department stores at a cosmetic counter.

I have used Fashion Fair for years and since I had my son and my skin color changed I have not been able to find a good match. I have heard great things about M.A.C. and I plan to get a makeover with their products to see how it works, but I have also heard about Prescriptives. I was told that it is a little more expensive but they combine serveral different shades to match yours 100%. So if all else fails you may want to let Prescriptives give you a shade test.

Thanks a grand for all of your input. Poplife, I've heard the tinted moisturizer works well, but didn't know M.A.C had one. I've heard great things about M.A.C., but I've never been able to find a lipstick that I like from their store. Also, I will try those Neutrogena lipsticks. As for Fashion Fair, the products always rub off on me. However, I am willing to try again and this time with more assistance. Thanks again!

I agree, M.A.C makeup is wonderful. It is a little hard on the pockets at times, but I swear by it now, I wouldn't wear anything else. Jeez, I really sound like a dang commercial.

Well, I may have to give M.A.C. a try when its time to buy more cosmetics. We have major department stores in town, but never had M.A.C. until one store finally added the counter in April. This is good advertising for them!

DAG what major department stores around yall sell M.A.C.? I can not find any near me. AKAtude is Clinique good? I have never seen any shades for women of color. I should look somewhere else besides my hometown because everything here is a little biased................Oh and let me take a moment to commend all of the ladies of AKA that post on these forums. I have noticed that you all are very pleasant in your responses to people even if you have heard the question a million times or if you may think the question is off subject etc. I think its wonderful that you all remain attentive, tactful, respectful, and nice to your interests, sisterfriends, sorors, and fellow greek counterparts. Its always a pleasure to enter your forum and read the various topics and responses

I went and got a makeover at M.A.C's counter on yesterday and I love it already. My husband even said that my skinned looked even. I highly recommend their Studio Fix, which is their foundation+powder in one. It looks so natural. It doesn't make you look like you have cake mix on your face.

Prettygrl, I think it depends on where you live. In Charleston, only one of the Belk department stores has M.A.C., yet I've heard people say go to Dillard's. The Dillard's here doesn't carry the line.
As for Clinique, I like it. It did help having a black Clinique salesperson assist me with the makeup. Good luck finding what you are looking for.

Hi Sorors and SF's,
You ladies have got to give me more info M.A.C.'s "Tinted Moisturizer." It sounds like something that I would be interested in. How well does it work at covering blemishes? I absolutely love M.A.C lipsticks and liners. I've been using Imans bronzer which I absolutely love along with this product called Dermablend that I use to even out my skin tone.
