Question Spirit Actvities

Hey everyone!
I am the Recruitment Chair for a very large chapter and am in the process of planning work week. I want to try to to put in fun spirit/sisterhood activities that people will get into! I need a few 10 - 15 minute ones, and I want to find a longer one to kick off the week. Anyone know of some good onesw? I just am having a hard time thinking of ones that people will actually like - because otherwise htey just complain what a waste of time it is!! Thank you for all your help!

alright here are some games that we play at sisterhood nights and retreats: at least the ones that i remember going well and were fun too.

5 minute talent contest: there were about 4 groups of 10 thruout the day. at the end of the night our sisterhood chair gave each group a different song and we had to come up with a lip sync routine (extra credit if you did a dance) in 5 minutes.

the song of the day: we divided up into our families. the sisterhood chair said a word, like "love", and each family would have to continuously think of songs that contained that word and sing it. the group would have a minute extra if they got stumped and if they couldn't think of anything or they repeated a song that someone else did, they were out.

themed songs: each group is given a type of music, example: disco, country, etc. the group had 10 minutes to change the lyrics to any song(s) in that genre to pertain to the house then come up with a routine. kind of like a mini greek sing among us.

crafts are always fun too. we seem to do those a lot.

my favorite is a friendship web. basically, you use a skein of yarn and each person gets to say one positive thing and toss it to another sister in the circle. if you have a large chapter, this might not be a possibility.

maybe you can get a big piece of banner paper and tack it to the wall (or a blank journal if you need something smaller). sisters can write favorite memories or why they love your chapter. you can have it available throughout the week so that people can keep adding to it. keep this and during recruitment, you can pull it out and read a few before or after parties to give sisters that little boost they might need to keep going!

I'm bumping this up b/c I just found out that I'm co-chairing the Spirit Committee for my chapter during work week and I need some ideas! I'm looking for little activities to pep people up without them getting annoyed at it, and also some ideas for little things to make, like goody bags or door decorations ... but I haven't really had any concrete ideas about that. Does anyone else have any suggestions?
And BTW the ones already posted are great! Thanks for those suggestions, I'm definitely going to use some of them! One idea I had that wasn't posted is Lavalier Day, ie everyone wears their lavalier.
Only 3 weeks til work week!

We did this at retreat. we split into teams and we had to think of funny things everyone in the group could do or interesting things about ourselves. and then we challenged the other teams to beat us at our strengths. It was cute we were doing hand claps and stuff from when wwe were kids and silly stunts.

lip sync is always good

We haven't done this in my sorority, but we did it at a summer program I went to during the last week as a good-bye activity, but I think it would work as a sisterhood one, too. We each had a paper bag with our name on it and everyone else in the program could leave notes and little gifts (candy, etc.) in the bag. It would be really cute to do during recruitment (write good luck notes, special memories, sisterhood quotations, thank you notes for hard work, etc). Maybe you could let the chapter leave the notes during work week and hand out the bags during recruitment...

In my sorority, we have secret sisters. Each day during recruitment you leave a card, small gift, candy bar, etc. on her seat. That way, when we go into the chapter room after the parties, we have a little surprise. On bid night we reveal ourselves to our secret sister.

Before Pref we're also going to try to have a sisterhood event where the big sis' read a short note (like 5 lines... we don't want this to take six hours!) to their little(s) about how important they are, etc. (The youngest person in the family will read a note to the oldest person in the family so that everyone gets a note!) I'm not sure if this will work in your chapter (we're pretty small, so it shouldn't take more than an hour)...

Also, we usually get a cake the night before recruitment starts wishing us good luck (and who doesn't love cake???)...

Scavenger hunts are always fun, but make sure that EVERYONE participates, so it isn't considered hazing!!! You could do regular scavenger hunts where you have to find certain items, picture hunts where you split up into groups and have to take pictures with a disposable camera of stuff (everyone in the group climbing a tree, making your letters on the ground with your bodies, in WalMart, etc.), or, if you can get a few video cameras, a video scavenger hunt.

Everyone in my sorority is also a big fan of "Trainwreck", which is also called by a lot of different names. This game is so fun (even if we sometimes have to get down and dirty to find seats!), and you get to learn a bit about your sisters too! Everyone sits in a circle on chairs, with one person standing in the middle (sort of like musical chairs, with one less chair than there are players). The girl in the middle pulls out a piece of paper from a bag that is in the middle also, and reads it. Everyone that it pertains to gets up and moves/scrambles to find another seat. The point is to not be left standing. Some things that are put on the papers in the bag are "has blue eyes", "is left handed", "has a tatoo", "is from (city)", etc. There really isn't any end to this game either, just whenever the papers run out...I hope I explained that ok enough for you guys to understand!!!

Just a heads up. On a lot of campuses scavenger hunts, no matter who is involved in them are outlawed. I know they are a huge no-no on my campus. So you ought to be careful if you want to plan of these...

First- Ditto onthe scavenger hunts not being the best, not the best time for a hazing infraction. Esp when it involves cars and treees.

2- We also did this thing w/ SG&D and put compliments in a bag, and every day each woman took one out of her bag. they were all annoymous (it was actually dealing w/self esteem) but lots of women enjoyed it cause it was during greek week and that gets stressful so it reminded them that desipte the little dramas, they do have sisters that care about them

I'm not sure if you have a house, but if you do you can adapt the exam balloons for work week or recruitment week. At some of my friends' houses they tape a balloon on their door for each exam they have to take (they usually write what exam it is on the balloon, too)... when they finish with it they pop the balloon. Usually the balloons have little notes inside like "You did it!" "Congrats" or something along those lines. If you want to do door decorations, you might be able to adapt this...

We play trainwreck also, but with some twists. Everyone is standing and you just pull something out at random like "Got her belly-button pierced this summer" or "Didn't eat breakfast today" and then they have to run. We played this at a few socials as an Icebreaker and it was a great time - although the guys got raunchy.

Hey

Every year we do various different things depending on who is the head of the spirit IG, but some that have been big hits are..

a puppet show.. sounds childish right.. though you pick out funny things about various girls in the chapter and play on them.. obviously dont pick things that people might be offended by.. such as.. we had this one girl in our chapter who was so tall.. then another who was very short.. and they had the puppets side by side talking like them. Make the puppets look like them so people know .. like if they have a distinguishing feature. Its really funny when done right. (I dont want to get in to the examples bc a lot of them are inside jokes and personal to people ya know)

a rap.. put something interesting or funny about each sister in it.. it was divided into different parts since we had a large chapter, but it was funny to hear the part about you or others..

also.. we are divided up into groups for that week.. one night we have a spaghetti night.. people are chosen to host different groups at their apt and you go there and everyone cooks and eats dinner together..

here a just some ideas..
