*freakin' out*
ok...well not really, i will be going to college this fall, and plannin' to rush, and im really nervous. I mean, my motto is 'expect the worse, hope for the best'. and so naturally, i am so nervous about not being accepted back to the next round. So i was looking on advice on not only tips going through rush, but how to just relax and let myself enjoy it and not stress so much (i mean it's only july and im freakin!), And also i know everyone says just be yourself, but i keep thinking what if people dont like 'myself' i mean those girls that don't get asked back...they were themselves (well most of them were i hope)...so why not the friendly invite back?

Good luck!!!
First of all, Good Luck! I hope you post all of your rush experiences here for us to enjoy!
Second of all, listen to those on here that know what you're about to be going through. There are a lot of smart and sweet people here at GC.
The best advice I've ever heard was by AOIIalum (Christin). I pasted and copied the quote here : "Of course, always put your best foot forward and be at the top of your game during recruitment! But, don't try to re-invent yourself into something you're not. If you can't see yourself after an all night study session, no makeup, in desperate need of a shower, basically at your worst with the girls in a sorority, then it just may not be the one for you. " -Christin
Hope this helps!!!

Easier said than done, but try to relax so your real self can shine through. Recruitment is so exciting--it's fascinating to see how things fall into place. Please keep us posted--we'll help if we can.

Also
im feelin under pressure, because i have like tons of friends who pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma Last year and their moms were Kappas and im always over at their houses, and they always say stuff like 'kappas are the best' 'if you want to be cool....choose kappa' i know they are just trying to say it jokingly but they seem to really want me to pledge kappa, even my my friends are saying stuff like 'we can finally be sisters!!" and then they cry (for god's sake....THEY CRY!) and then i feel bad...and i know i may not even get invited back by the house, but i know my friends will be really dissapointed if i didn't pledge kappa one way or the other. and i try to tell them 'its my decision. i may go through rush and love the house and then i may go through rush and decided that i dont quit fit in there..." but then THEY get all mad at me! *sighs*

I know that this is stressful, but you have to remember... you were friends with them before and no matter which way you go you will still be friends. I have plenty of friends in other sororities. Keep an open mind!
Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!

AMelie--you're right, you may not get invited back to Kappa. But, you just MAY get invited back to Kappa every day! Please, I beg you, try not to stress over things like that!
You are so right when you say it's your decision. Recruitment is designed as a mutual selection process--mutual meaning you choose AND each sorority chooses. You may discover that Kappa fits into your life beautifully, which would be great. You may discover that AOII or Gamma Phi or Pi Phi are better fits for you--and that's okay. It looks like you have 14-15 sororities to choose from at Nebraska! I'm sure that no matter which sorority you choose to join, your friends will be thrilled for you!
I think it's just great that you know so many Kappa women who think so highly of their sorority and are so excited to think you could share in their experiences. Do you know if Nebraska uses or requires recs? If so, perhaps one of the Kappa moms would be willing to write you a rec?
Expect the best from your recruitment experience, AMelie! Recruitment is a lot of fun, it's a great way to make new friends and learn about your school, and hopefully find a lifetime of sisterhood. Seriously, even though it sounds corny, be the best AMelie you can be! Keep your options open, because so many times the sorority you think you want the most on day 1 just might not be the sorority you want to call home on Bid Day!
If you've got any questions about *anything* recruitment related, ask away. Get your application in (if there's a place on it to mention extracurriculars, community service experience and academic honors, make sure to include those!) Besides that, just make sure your clothes and shoes are clean and in good repair, be excited and ready to have fun during recruitment! Good luck!

AMelie03,
I am sure that your friends know that not every chapter is the same. And your friends will be supportive of your choices. It is just so very hard not to promote your own GLO because we love them so much. As long as you find your greek home, the place you are most comfortable, your friends will appreciate your love and spirit for your future chapter. You will still have that greek spirit in common. Just like we all have that in common here on GC. And we celebrate it. And who knows, it might be Kappa after all .
Good Luck!!!

Hey! I will be a junior at Mizzou this fall, BUT I am originally from Omaha, NE and my brother goes to UNL as well as TONS of my friends! Rush down there can be competitive especially since you'll be from out of state, I know the thing that helped a lot of my friends when they went through was that they had gone to high school with many of the girls in the houses. But it is *nothing* at all like southern rush. Just relax, be yourself, and HAVE FUN!!! I am so excited to hear your rush story since I have friends in almost every sorority down there!!!

A Note about Recs and the Greek system at Nebraska
Okay I caught AOIIalums question about recs...Again hopefully my position as a Greek Ambassador can help...
Recs are generally not that big of deal at Nebraska, it is definitly not required for you to get invited back to a house like it is in some places. However having recs will not in any way hurt you. But neither does it mean you are a shoe in. One of my best friends is in Tri-Delt, and she had four recs to AXO and obviously didn't end up there. In fact 2 of three houses she went to pref for were the only houses she didn't have letters of reccomendation for...so go figure!!
Recs arent' taht big of deal, mainly because many of the small town girls can't get them in order to compete with those from Lincoln and Omaha.
So I would say that if you can get them to write recs for you, go for it, but if not don't worry about it.
As for getting invites back. Here's what I know from my friends. Some houses will actually invite all the girls going through back for the second day automatically, and then make drastic cuts before pref. Others will cut heavily on the first day, but if you get past that point you should have a pretty good shot at going to pref with that house. Finally, some cut gradually each day. Obviously you don't know which is which, but I guarantee that you will get invited back to houses every day! If you don't, well you can find me at the Beta house and ask for Geoff!
