Being a Notherner or Yankee

What are some great things about being from the north. I like how it snows a lot.

No Southern accents. I'm not hating, my family is from the south, but I can only take so much of that drawl. Big ups to North Carolina!!!

I like the diversity of the north, especially in the major cities. You pretty much get a little big of everything from around the world.

I also like the changing of the season. Variety is the spice of life!

Just a note: As a southerner living in the North (New England to be exact), I can honestly say that I have never seen SO LITTLE diversity. I feel like things are very segregated here and it makes me a little uncomfortable.

I'm from Houston, born and raised, and it was WAY diverse.

Now does that mean that all of the North is that way? No. This has just been my experience.

i love the arts. in every northern city i've been to they have wonderful theater programs that are relatively inexpensive to see plays performed at. i like the fall too, when you can smell the burning leaves and go to bonfires in your sweaters and jeans at the end of September/beginning of October....before it gets too cold.

Yay! A Yankee Thread!

I love the people, the pace of life. I love the rich history. I like the politeness of the people in communities and the respect people give each other. I love autumn and the changing colors of the leaves, the bonfires my friends and I have. There can never be enough weenie roasts! I could go on and on, but I'll stop right there...

I like the history and the diversity, like everyone else was saying, and I also like the accessibility of everything. I live outside of a major city (Philadelphia), and I can get to 2 other major cities (NYC and DC) and the shore within about 2 hrs. I don't think I could live anywhere that didn't have relatively quick access to an ocean.

I love how northern folks embrace their culture. The portuguese, the italian, the irish and others. They celebrate their culture and embrace it. I think it is a lot of fun. I don't see it as segregrated. They always welcomed me, even though my family is as plain old american as it gets. My grandfathers best friends were portuguese & italian respectively.

I love chorice (portuguese sausage) that I can't get here in Dallas. I miss lobsters straight off the boat. I miss that you might actually need a sweater on July 4th while watching the fireworks.

Just because it's segregated doesn't mean you don't have diversity. Boston is a very segregated city, but you alot of different types of people. Washington DC is also very segregated, but again, lots of different flavors.

Now my home sweet home NEW YORK CITY is segregated in some areas and not in others, but NYC has diversity like no other place I know of.

Oh yeah, didn't mean to forget about Philly, just don't know much about it.

And I retract Washington DC. It's actually more of a southern city. (Anyone from the uurrea knows what I'm talkin about )

I wouldn't trade being a Yankee for anything. I love that we aren't really definable. There's sass and moxie in Northern women. We don't take isht, we start isht! WE ARE THE ISHT!

Also, the best of all four seasons! I LOVE the smell of autumn.

We're out of the hurricane belt. RARELY do we get hit with anything but remnants!

We're the cradle of America! We have so much history here, it's unreal.

Fashion trends usually start in the North.

We've got more Chinatowns, Little Italys, and other diverse neighborhoods than you can shake a stick at!

No matter where I go in the North, I feel at home and comfortable!

BEING A NORTHERN WOMAN RULES!

We are used to it in the South. What Yankess consider hot and Southerners consider hot are 2 totally differnt things as well. Good thing about the heat is the girls are in the short -shorts and tank tops longer in the year unlike the 3 months of warmth up there.lol

Oh, one more thing:

Where else can you find SOOO many dialects of English?? Bostonians speak differently than Rhode Islanders, who speak differently than Noo Yawkas who speak differently than Long Islanders, who speak differently than Pennsylvanians, who speak differently than those on the Eastern Shore of MD who speak differently than in DCers!!LOL

I love hearing my friend Wayne tawk (how I say talk) and say "He was such a ree tahd (retard)!" LOL

Oh, and Noo Yawk is the birthplace of the different ways to use the word FUCK ! LOL

"Who gives a fuck!"

"Go jump in a fucking lake!"

"We were fucking all fuckin' night!"

"Go fuck yourself!"

See, noun, adjective, AND verb!!

NORTHERNERS RULE!
