Recruitment/ Campus Difficulties~ HELP!
Hey Sigmas!
My name is Trina and I am the Recruitment Director for the Epsilon Rho Chapter. I need some help.
My school has a rule that does not let any freshman or transfer students join a sorority or fraternity until they have an established GPA at the school. So as you could imagine, we really have to focus on the Sophmores, Juniors, and Seniors in the Fall. I want and need to get my sorority pumped about Recruitment this fall and really get our numbers up. We lost many girls this last spring due to graduation and we have 21 members. Our goal is 35 by the end of Fall Semester.
I guess what I am really trying to get at is if anyone has some awesome ideas to get girls interested on my campus. Our Greek system has endured a lot this past spring with loosing all of our funding due to budget cuts and a school newspaper that has not been very supportive of us. If anyone has some good ideas for the first couple of weeks of school to get our name really out there, let me know!! Thanks ladies. Have a fun and safe summer.
Sigma Love and Mine-
Trina

Here's some random ideas off the top of my head that may or may not work at your school, but maybe at least one will work:
-Chalking the sidewalks letters/slogans
-Shoe polishing cars letters/slogans
-Painting dorm/house windows with letters/slogans...use bright purple paint!
-Can you have a philanthropy event that early in the year? Maybe a jump-a-thon or rock-a-thon for RPM, a canned food drive, etc. You can put flyers up everywhere about the event...great PR
-Have bake sales in the university center or a prominent place on campus
-Put ads in the student newspaper welcoming students back
-Is there a marquee that you can put something on? Like "Tri Sigma Welcomes You Back to Campus"
-Wear letters EVERY day....shirts...buttons on backpacks, etc. (I know this will sounds superficial, but look cute when you have letters on...makeup and hair done, not a ballcap with no makeup!)
-Eat lunch together in the cafeteria...go to welcome week events together in letters...show unity!
-Make sure you have a great website so people can see what your chapter is about
-Always promote greek unity, and the sorority system as a whole, when persuading people to go through recruitment

Those are all great ideas. We did the sidewalk chalking during our prospective student weekend this year and it seemed like sigma was everywhere!!! we also had bright green t-shirts made and wore them all on the same day, girls from other sororities came up to us to tell us how well we were representing!!!! the t-shirts were for this fundraiser we do which is awesome and gets other students involved it's called "Pie a Sigma-Tri". We set up outside in front of the student center and students could pay 1 dollar to throw a pie in the face of the sister of theri choosing. We had music playing and were running around making a big mess and having fun, I feel like it really got us out there. We raised 60 bucks or so (for 3 hrs, our afternoon session was rained out) and for a school of under 1000 undergrad, that's pretty good!!
hope that helps!
in our bonds,
Ashley

What a blast! This sounds like so much fun...and tasty!
I have one question...Can the "pie in the face" sister pick the type of pie (ie Lemon, chocolate, etc.)?
I know I wouldn't mind having anything chocolate thrown at me!
Bring it on!

you can do the any kind of pie you want (heee). We made ours out of little paper plates (no crust), a LOT of vanilla pudding, cool whip, and cherries. Just buy a bunch of chocolate pudding and your set!!! (just remember to wear old clothes)

sigmabutterfly,
Are you from Alpha Omicron? our leadership consultant was from that chapter and I thought that you might know her. We have a couple of chapters out in Arkansas right? It would be fun to make that connection.

One of our newer alumnae chapter members here in Tulsa is from Epsilon Zeta. She moved to here to go to law school last summer at TU and I LOVE her! Such a wonderful young woman! (well, not that much younger than me...just a few years!) Her name is Stephanie Albertson...was she active when you were in school?

yes!!! I'm talking about Amber. I'm sure she went to alot of chapters, she was such a trip! She had letters on CONSTANTLY and had watched sorority life with us (all the while informing us about hazing) and did impressions of all the ladies at Sigma HQ. I thought maybe she was from your chapter, but now our chapters are connected by Amber
Much love to ALL the Arkansas Tri Sigmas!!

Since you guys are talking about Sigmas in Arkansas, I'm from Arkansas and just happen to know about a handful. Its cool how that connection was made cause Ashley is my lil sis. Its weird how somethings happen.
But in response to the original message....
There are many things that you can do to make your sorority look good on campus. Ashley already mentioned some of the things that we have done in our chapter. One thing you can do is to show a great deal of unity among the chapter and among ladies in other sororities. It would be best not to talk bad about other ladies in your sorority or others in front of non- greeks. Sometimes talking bad about each other can create more negativity and animosity towards greeks. You can also try to incorporate a sorority- wide fundraiser and look like you are having a good time while you are doing it. Always helps!
Hope that this may help you out somehow.
Slam,
April
