I have a problem. This girl who is supposedly my friend is supposed to be rushing me for her sorority. well, come to find out she tells another sorority sister that she really doesn't like me and thinks that I won't make it in because of an incident that is totally untrue. How would you recommend I handle this? Do you think there is still a possibility that I will get in that sorority with this one person having this attitude or should I just concentrate more on another sorority that doesn't gossip?

Marisol,
You will never be fully satisfied unless you know the truth. I know it seems difficult because she is in an organization that you want to be a part of, but you have to ask her. Tell her what you have heard and then tell her your version. Believe me it will make you feel better and she will probably develop a new respect for you. Remember most organizations don't pick weak members. And if she lies to you and you don't make it you really don't want to be part of an organization that doesn't want you.

Marisol, if I were in your shoes, I would want to find out the truth. Sit down with her one down day and say to her that you need to talk to her about something important. Tell her that you heard that she "allegedly said" this things about you and you want to find out if it is true or not. (Rush can be a very gossipy time, and she very well may NOT have said such things. Or, she may have said something, but it got twisted through the re-telling process. Such is gossip.) You will only know if you ask the source.
However, be aware of the posture that you take with her. Although you are hurt and angry, try not to be too confrontational or hostile with her (at least not to begin with). Everything that you have heard so far would appear to be hearsay, so give her a chance to clear it all up before you do anything that could be detrimental to your chances with other sororities at Rush. You want her to be open and honest with you and if you bawl her out to begin with, she will get angry and won't want to actually explain anything (this will be tough to do, but remember that your goal right now is to first of all, get to the bottom of what's going on, and she is the only one who can tell you what she said.)
Good Luck, have courage and I hope that you find out the truth!

Well, Actually, I eavesdropped and overheard this so I know she said it but I do not want to confront her because she will know I was listening to her conversation plus I am afraid it would ruin my chances for that sorority and that is the sorority I really want to be in and most of the other girls are nice people.

If you were eavesdropping, I would not confront her. Confessing that you were eavesdropping will not be favorable to your case. Just go for it in Rush and hope for the best. I'm sorry that the advice isn't that great, but such is life. Good Luck and I hope that rush works out ok for you.

If you think they are already gossiping about you, then DO NOT JOIN. Friend or no friend, there are other sororities with different girls who would love to have you as a friend.
Hopefully, what you heard isn't true. Sometimes things can be twisted. If some of my non-greek friends went through recruitment, I don't know if I would want them to be in my sorority. I mean, I love them as friends - but a sorority is something different. just because I get along with them doesn't mean everyone else will - and so on and so on.
Maybe this particular sorority was right for you friend, but there is another one out there that is right for you!
EDIT: Ps - do not go into recruitment leaning for one sorority. I twill close your mind off to other sororities and you might mess up and miss the one you truely belong to. Reguardless go in with an open mind. Everything happens for a reason. I got cut from a chapter I really liked during recruitment, but now I just couldn't imagine being one of their sisters and not a DG. I became a DG because that is where I belonged - I might have not thought so at the time becuase I had other "things" clouding my mind with where I thought I belonged.

Argh! I did it again. I feel like such a jackass when I reply to old threads.
Okay - mental note, check date of thread before giving out advice.

Don't feel that way, MeridionaleDG! Even if Marisol is no longer having this problem, there could possibly be someone else out there who *is* so this thread is helping them

No prob.
People bump old threads all the time.

Yes, but you'd be sure to win the fight.
