Disappointment - I think!

I'm spilling my guts here, because I don't want to do it on one of the main boards - yet.

Do y'all remember how excited I've been that a friend of mine is planning to rush at USC this fall? Well, I just found out that she's not sure if she's returning to USC. She's in NROTC, and isn't sure that she wants to stick it out. If she doesn't return to USC, she plans to attend school in the Chicago area for at least a year - commuting, I assume.

So... I'm not sure whether to send the rec, in case she does go, or to make several copies of the rec for her other choices! Bethany is one of the sweetest, nicest, and wittiest young women I've met in a while, and she really has her head on straight! I REALLY would like to see her go ADPi, and had even planned on an inititiation gift! (I know, cart before the horse - but she really likes the USC chapter!)

I guess I'm venting a little, but has anyone else had something like this happen? Do I send the rec(s)?

I'm pretty down about it... but obviously, not as much as she is.

honeychile,
I would definitely go ahead with the recommendation. It gives your friend a choice, even if she waits until the very last minute to make up her mind about where she wants to attend college this year, she'll at least know that if she decides to go back to USC she's in good shape to go through recruitment.
The hard part is that we get so emotional about someone we really love possibly having a chance at becoming a sister, it's so tough. One of my closest ADPi friends had a little cousin who I watched go through High School and then enter college, she grew up to be a particularly wonderful girl. When she rushed I could barely hear about it, I so wanted her to go ADPi! (My friend wanted to give me the day to day run down on what she liked and what she didn't, but I couldn't listen to it- it made me too nervous!) She is a great ADPi sister now, so the story has a fabulous ending, but I really understand the emotional pull the situation can have.
I hope you friend does return to USC, NROTC is so demanding, I can understand her reluctance, but you might say that becoming part of a sorority will most likely bring a warmth to her college experience that it didn't have before. There are millions of stories of how joining a GLO literally saves an entire collegiate experience. I hope this happens for her (and hopefully for ADPi!)

Thought I'd give y'all an update (well, as much as I know!).

Bethany is still undecided about USC & NROTC. She's working her little heart out this summer, being a nanny for a chld with Down's Syndrome among other things.

Her parents are both Greeks (her mom is a Tri-Sigma), so they're not in any way anti-GLO. I will see her - and hopefully, meet her parents - early in July, so we'll go from there.

It's amazing - I got all through school without ever having a serious "rush crush" but I'm making up for lost time now!

I'll try to post more as I hear about it. Whitney, she's going to give me a photo in July, and I'll mail the rec then. The pictures I have of her are from a particularly rowdy soccer game (we met thru soccer), and don't do her justice.
