Hey Texans-a Yankee Has A Question
Ok, since there seems to be an overwhelming amount of texans, and I am visiting the state in less then a week...i have a question-
What is the weather like?
No seriously. I know I could go to weather.com or something, but their forcast has sucked for the NYC Metro area. I don't think they bother to change it anymore...its rained for like the last month here. And I just don't trust them anymore.
Is there sun in Texas still? Is it brutally hot yet? GIMME THE DETAILS!!!!
I've never been to Texas. I had to do a report on it in 3rd grade, and ever since then I have been determined to make it to Texas. And now, much later, I get to go to Arlington and represent my chapter for Tri Delta- what could be better??!!
But seriouly, again, I have no idea what to pack. I mean I know at conferences and stuff, its supposed to be business attire. But I can't see myself walking around in a pantsuit like I do in Jersey.
A little help please?

Lately we have had an unusual amount of rain. It IS hot!! Also, we have been having level orange ozone days. If you have any respiratory problems, as I do, it can be hard on you to be outdoors.
You'll want to bring light clothes, especially if you think you will be outside a lot. BUT many of the buildings are ice-cold inside, so you may want to bring a sweater or light jacket. I know that sounds crazy, but you never know.
Really, we are pretty casual most of the time. It might be a good idea to ask the Arlington people what they are going to wear. I hope this has been helpful!

Any Texan will tell you "if you don't like the weather, wait a day, it will change".
But seriously it is hot. Not as hot as it has been some years. But hot enough I wish I were in New England. I think it has been in the 90's this week.
Everywhere you go has great a/c so you hardly notice the weather unless you have outdoor activities planned.

Around this time of year, it's gonna be hot... and humid... and muggy... and oppressive. They're expecting temperatures in the 90's throughout next week. You can get away with 'business casual' at informal events, but I'd recommend packing at least a dress and maybe a business suit.
For weather in the DFW area, ya can't go wrong with www.wfaa.com - they have a pretty good weatherman who is quite used to how unpredictable Texas weather can be.
DFW GC'ers -- if you have the time and DolphinChicaDDD isn't too busy, we all gotta get together for drinks and stuff! Gotta show her some down-home Texas hospitality we're so famous for!

I'll never forget how last year when I was living in Austin March rolled around and there were some fair days and people would think it was cold and I'd be pulling up to work without a coat and people would give me "are you crazy" looks
If you're used to cold weather like me, 50's and 60's are refreshing and not that cold like some people in Austin though. But the "Wait a minute" part is true. There'd be days where I'd have the windows open in the apartment and then it'd get really windy and chilly all of the sudden and I'd have to shut them again.

I depart from the East Coast Friday June 27. I'll be in Arlington, more specifically The University of Texas at Arlington. I'm gonna be in town only until the 29th, then I have to go back.
They didn't send us what the schedule of events or anything was...but as soon as I find out, I'll let you know.
I can't imagine us being under lock and key or anything...but I'm not sure about drinks. a) most greek conferences are supposed to be dry b) i don't turn 21 until OCTOBER!!! MY LATE BIRTHDAY IS KILLING ME!!!!!!!!
But other then that, I would LOVE to meet some of you guys!!! I'll keep ya posted...or should i say y'all.

you got heat wherever you are in the state. keep your eyes peeled to see if more rain rolls in. chances are, if a storm is in the state, it will be raining there.

the weather really depends on what part of the state you'll be visiting.
I don't know much about central or west texas, but I know in south texas it is deathly hot because it's the summer. A couple of weeks ago, my mom said the heat index was about 115 In north texas, if it's not raining like it has been a lot recently, the temp is usually around high-80s or in the 90s.
I'd bring an umbrella just in case!

Bad News
I just got the email back from the nationals...the only free time I have is between when I arrive from the airport and when the first session starts...other then that, I'm in seminars from 8am-11:45.
So it looks like the most I will see of Texas is DFW Airport, Houston Airport, and the University of Texas at Arlington.
Oh well, thanks again for the invite!! If anyone happens to be in the NYC area, let me know!!
