So I met Nancy Grace last night...
at a birthday party. And I have to tell you, ladies, she is one class act! Very low key, EXTREMELY easy to talk to-I really regret not being able to spend more time with her. We talked about several things, among them ADPi, but I never got a chance to ask her any questions about her work, and I SO would have enjoyed that. We talked for about 20-30 minutes, off and on, as other people came up. Oh-when I introduced myself and told her I was an ADPi from Georgia Southern, she immediately hugged my neck, grabbed my hand, and gave me the ADPi handshake. She was very understated, very "uncelebrity acting"-she represents us well, sisters!

I was at a law school fair yesterday and I thought of NG when I passed by the Mercer table!

I was flipping channels last night and stopped when I saw her show was on - I'm also going to ask for her book for Christmas this year
I think she'd be an awesome speaker at Convention, don't you?

Seriously, doesn't it make you wanna be someone "higher up" so we can get her to speak at convention.

She is an ADPi alumna and former lawyer with a nationally syndicated news show that usually focuses in on human interest stories such as missing persons, domestic violence, etc. She's been parodied a bit on network TV dramas as the obnoxious reporter seeking glory through telling the victims' stories and badgering defense attorneys of rapists, murderers, etc.
People are usually 50/50 with her-- love her or hate her. She was on the cover of the last Adelphean magazine. Personally, I think she'd be a rather controversial speaker at an event b/c people are so divided over her.

You know, normally I would have agreed with you on that, but after having met her, I really think she would be an awesome speaker at Convention. I say that because, one-on-one, she is nothing like her television persona. She really has a way of listening to you, and she doesn't force herself or ideas into a conversation. Also, she truly enjoyed talking about ADPi, and has at least two family members who are also ADPis. She told me what the connection was with the girl who is now at Georgia Southern, but I don't remember exactly-the music was loud, and she was talking into my ear so that I could hear her, but I don't think I got it all. I know it was in the Adelphean. Oh, I meant to tell everyone that she also said she sent "several" copies of it to her mother! As she should, ha ha! Without her TV make-up and in a noncombative environment she is just so less "threatening," and comes off much softer. Also, the guy she was with was in a fraternity in college, which was actually the reason they were at this event-it was the fiftieth birthday of one of his fraternity brothers. And, we talked about some rush, sigh, recruitment issues. She made a very cute remark about how I was feeling about something that happened recently with rush, which I won't repeat, but believe me, she can relive her sorority days!! Also, I imagine she gave a good bit of time, at least permission, for the Adelphean article. So, while I hadn't thought about her speaking at an ADPi related event, I bet she would be a very interesting, as well as heartwarming, speaker. And I would most definitely want to be there!
By the way, she is so much shorter than I thought she would be. And, she wasn't all dressed up to a T-the event was casual, and she just fit right in with the rest of us. When I get the pictures we took (we looked at the first one on the person's digital camera, and it looked a little light. I said, "That's OK," but she said, "Nope, we gotta take another one!"), I'll post, and yall can PM me your email addresses and I'll send them to you. That is, if I look halfway decent in them!

Exactly. And while I'm sure she is lovely in person, it is precisely this kind of split opinion on her that makes her a controversial choice as a speaker to those who haven't had the opportunity to meet her one-on-one.
Although the speaker they had one night at 03 conference was, in a word, annoying. I can't tell you how much I despise motivational speakers. I'm sure there are some humble and great ones out there, but all the ones I've ever seen are a bunch of attention whores. And annoying as all get-up.

I can see your point - I just also feel the same way with Karen Hughes at last year's Convention (she is/was(?) part of President Bush's team in some capacity, which honestly I'm not that interested in). Different situation, but same feeling about having her as a speaker. :/

FYI, Karen Hughs is President Bush's former Communications Director - irreverantly known as a "spin doctor".
I don't think there will EVER be a speaker for such a diverse group who would hold everyone's interest. I've been to more of these types of situations than I care to remember, and I think there were maybe two or three who really enthralled me - but lost a lot of other people! So, it's "how nice, let's be polite, maybe we'll get something out of it (or not), and clap when it's over." Their job is "KISS"!

Did you tell her you knew her college classmate, "NutBrnHair?!?" Oh...wait...she knows me by a different name. Nevermind.
Can I also interrupt your forum to give my thoughts on "controversial" Convention speakers?
About 15 years ago, Chi Omega named Congresswoman Pat Schroeder a "Woman of Achievement" at a Convention. (Certainly, politically a controversial person.) She attended. Received the award. Gave a speech and was lovely. She recieved a standing ovation (not from 100%) but overall, was very well received. All should be able to agree she did "achieve" great things -- whether or not you would VOTE for her was another thing.
