Question same song?

Hello ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. and my fellow sisterfriends,
My question is similar to AKAtude's question on mascots. I had someone tell me that the songs that sororities stroll to at parties differs from region to region. She said that she went to a party on the west coast and someone other than DST were strolling to "To Be Real". I know that here AKA's stroll to "Set It Off". Is she correct? Does the song differ by region?

My undergrad chapter didn't party walk to any one particular song. We just joined in when someone started one. I suppose if a chapter wants to make a particular song there "stroll song", they could. It's interesting that you mentioned "To Be Real" because that was one of the songs my line use during our probate show. We wanted to use "I'm Coming Out" by Diana Ross but a previous DST line used it previously so we decided against it.

Cool

That is very interesting. I attend a college in Florida and each sorority and fraternity has one particular song that they stroll to. I just assumed that those were, like the mascots, their unofficial songs. I mentioned "To Be Real" in particular because a friend of mine who is interested in DST told me that "To Be Real" is the background music on the DST national headquarters website. I never checked the site to see if that was so. I know that when I look at certain AKA webpages, the have the song "Set It Off" as their backgroung music. I think that it is great that no one particular song is used. Variety is always good. Thank you for your reply.

First, Hello Ladies of AKA. In answer to the previous statement, I am a Delta and the song "To Be Real: is not on the Official Website of Delta Sigma Theta. Some chapter webpages may use any music they like but there is none on the Official National Wepage of Delta Sigma Theta, and I've never strolled to "To be Real" That may be a regional thing

Hey Sorors! It must be a regional thing. I do not remember an official "strut" song. Back in the day when I was in college, whenever we were out and a song came on... a soror would start and we would go from there. A favorite of mine was "Ain't no future in you Frontin' by MC Breed (an early 90's Thang!) By the way... what is "Set it off?" Who made it? I've never heard of it before?

Thanks to all of the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha who responded. AKA 2D'91, I am snot sure of the name of the artist who sings "Set It Off". It is an older song that came out a while back. It is a great song. . (I may be a little partial.) I know that the old website for the Beta Alpha Chapter has the song as their background music. I guess that only being exposed to the members on my campus I was blind to the fact that various things differ by region. When the friend told me of her experience, it opened my eyes. Thank you for confirming that for me,
Strenously Striving Sisterfriend

I think the song that she is talking about is "Destination AKA."

Talking

I know a few Sorors from Beta Alpha and I think this is where "Set it Off" originated--if I am not mistaken. Anyway, they have a big claim on it because it is notorious in Florida. There are different versions from different areas, but I am partial to Beta Alpha's version--I guess because it's the first one taught to my ls and I by an alumni of FAMU.
