ASU Rush...what to wear?

I was looking at the information online pertaining to Arizona State University's Rush and it appears that it is four days long...and I have no idea what the dress "code" is each day. If anyone goes to ASU and knows I would really appreciate it as well as any help you might have!!

I am pretty sure it is the standard clothes that are worn at most schools for rush. You can probably just check through those for info. BTW do you know what dorm you are living in yet? I lived in Manzy, and it was fun...until I got kicked out

I actually am not living in the dorms...I'm transferring from USC where I did the dorm thing...nd as much as I loved the dorms, I definitely cannot survive without a kitchen and my own bathroom again!! Now I just have to find an apartment....

If you are going through Formal Recruitment, there is usually one night that is semi-formal (preference night). There other days are pretty causual and you should receive information just before recruitment starts or the 1st day of recruitment the latest.

I don't know how housing works at ASU - do they require new members to live in? Find out before you sign a lease!

I really like how they mention for pref that formal dresses are too dressy.
Seems that sometimes PNMs get a wee bit confused about what to wear. We've had several show up in their prom/homecoming dresses

I honestly think you do have to spell it out....because let's face it, what high school senior goes to "cocktail parties"??

Another potentially misleading statement, by the way, is "what you would wear to church." In many parts of the country the old tradition of getting "dressed up" (in a conservative way) for church is rapidly disappearing. This is neither good nor bad, just a fact of life. For instance, have you ever seen a young lady attending a funeral/memorial service wearing jeans and a tummy-baring top? I have. While that degree of casualness may still be unusual, I do think that some perfectly fine PNMs can be seriously misled through no real fault of their own by "church attire" terminology. Spelling it out in advance can seem a bit much to those who know the code, but it could really help some PNMs to feel more confident that they will fit in as far as clothes go. After all, for start-of-school formal rush, by the time someone gets to school and meets her Rho/Pi/Whatever Chi, it could be a shock to discover that she has a major wardrobe gap, even if the colleg is fairly laid-back and not dressy. By that time it may be way too late / too expensive to find something appropriate.
(Not to mention that "church attire" sort of neglects those whose places of worship are not "churches.")

Amen (no pun). I realize you may work on a farm, but for crying out loud, change out of the jeans with the udder spillage on them. We used to say church attire = pin attire - well, if I saw women in some of the things I've seen in church, I think it would take all I had not to rip that pin off. The problem is these are the children of the parents who thought it was so cute to put Junior in the overalls and baby Nikes 24/7. If kids get used to dressing up once a week when they are little, they won't mind so much. I know God doesn't care what you wear - but you should show that respect, nonetheless.

I think we should have photos of appropriate pin/ritual attire, and/or list explicitly what can or cannot be worn.

I definitely agree! This past weekend I was back at my old temple and I saw one girl wearing jeans and an abercrombie t-shirt!! How innapropriate is that!!!

Excellent points on the church attire - I will have to mention that to some PNMs I know who just graduated. They are members of my very casual church - wearing jeans and a polo shirt to our church is fine, and pretty standard. I've suggested "working at the mall" to one of them as better attire - we both used to work at Boston Store and anything you wear to work there would be appropriate for where she is going.

Hi, about the whole "living -in " thing, asu sorority girls live in a square two-story structure called "the adelphi commons" and so only about 30 girls from each house can live there, so basically freshman and most sohomores don't get to live in. My mom went to usc so i saw the houses there and asu doesn't have those. I'm going to rush asu next year as a freshman so i'll see you there!

Adelphi Commons is a nice complex. Works good for women, but they proposed a similar one for the Fraternities and it just wouldnt work. I just wish they were closer to Fraternity Row.
